how many of yall conceal carry without a permit?

If you permit expired, would you quit carrying until you renewed?

Has anyone ever had a situation in which they were asked to show CC permit ?

It's a misdemeanor in LA so I don't.

Yes but I also renew well in advance.

No but I've been stopped for speeding a couple of times and showed it. In Louisiana you are required to show the permit if you a carrying and have been stopped by LEO.

Like you, I've been stopped twice for speeding and showed the officer my permit. But I do this mostly as a way of trying to get a break (worked once, didn't work once).

But technically if you're in your car, it should be the same as carrying concealed in your home - IOW I'm not sure that carrying while driving is actually CCW. Now, if the officer asks me to step out of the vehicle, I'm definitely required to notify him since he has approached me in an official capacity and I'm carrying concealed.

Note: IANAL and I haven't seen any case law on this subject.

Yeah, it always felt like a little bit of a odd thing to me. I elect to show it though just in case things escalate and he asks me to step out for some reason. Would rather be up front than go through court to get a permit back.

In Louisiana, when they run your driver's license, they'll typically see that you have a CCW permit (since both are issued by the same agency).

Have done it on occasion when I'm somewhere like N.O. where I feel like I have an increased risk.

Never had a permit.

I actually read here on TD at the end of 2022 that LA WALLET app added the CCP tab to the other info on there.

When I opened my app to see is when I noticed my 5 year permit had expired Sept 2022.

When I clicked on the renew information, it states how LSP will notify permit holders 120 days in advance to expiration (never happened)

and also once your permit has lapsed for 60+ days you have to start over with original application, including renewing fingerprints (which is stupid because they dont change and are already on file)

Yes, only I am to blame.

Its a PITA to have to re-fingerprint and start over.

It got me thinking that the whole concealed permit concept is a money grab because criminals are carrying without a permit.

I was wondering of a scenario where I might be frisked or asked for my permit if my concealed weapon was discovered...

in the unfortunate situation in which you
have to use/draw your weapon in self defense, are you automatically in the wrong for not having a current permit?

all that said. I will eventually renew and jump through the hoops to conceal carry legally again, just venting and asking if anyone had thoughts on the subject is all.

Correct. If the agency has mobile data they will see it as soon as they run your DL or the dispatcher runs it.

It is absolutely a money grab. My CC expired a few years ago. Not going through that all day crap again. I conceal carry anyway when I feel I need to. In the event I have to use it, I’ll deal with the laws then

I have a license to carry in Texas. Even though it’s now constitutional carry I’ll still keep it current when the time comes.

That is very important if you ever leave the state on a roadtrip. States that have reciprocity with TX and/or LA permits, may not necessarily provide you with any rights to carry open or concealed in a state you are not a resident in.

We may all assume that red states are "friendly" and won't take the opportunity to screw you, but even Houston PD is not the same as Fort Bend Sheriff's Office, is not the same as the cops in Laffy vs. Bunkie, etc.

I do not like to leave potential criminal charges up to an individual officer's or prosecutor's discretion. Make it an issue no LEO needs to think about, and spend the money to renew.

I inform the officer that I am in possession of a loaded firearm and always hand him my permit on top of my DL and insurance card. Always the officer thanks me for informing him. Of course I am white so there is that.

I keep my Alabama CCW current because I travel to other states.
