My son has that. Nice gun. That thumb safety though is awkward to disengage.

Probably way too big, but I've been tracking some "old school" Ruger P89s lately (with or without safety. DC model is decocker only). In that price range though. Very reliable gun. Would fit your description and price point. Can double as a boat anchor if needed too!

I carry a P229 compact that weighs a shitload. It would be at home as a boat anchor until its shitily finished control levers rusted off

Some articles to your point on DA/SA. Seems like they are incrementally much higher cost though. Of course, this is your life you'd be talking about, so..

Using these analogies, the Beretta PX4 Storm Sub Compact would be one of the best choices. Over the price point though.

There are several high quality CZ75 clones on the market. If you like Canik they make a nice CZ75 compact clone imported by Tri Star called the C100.

The cost and the size/weight are the downfalls. They're also harder to shoot with two different trigger pulls to deal with. Hickok45 does a good little brief discussion on how he does not like them. Its older tech than striker guns, many of them are still metal frame. The weight has never bothered me

Polymer striker gun with external safety (shield 2.0) is the right answer for OP.

re: Compact 9MM for CC?
A local gun dealer has the SCCY CPX-2 in stock for $220. He has a Taurus G2C coming in a few weeks for $260 He did not know when he would get the S&W Shield in which costs $340. He did comment that the supply is hard to get now.

I am leaning strongly on getting the SCCY, but I would like some opinions.

One reason I have my wife's 38 special revolver at my nightstand is because if I have to wake up suddenly I don't want to fool with a safety.

Last thing I do before I go to bed each night is disengage the saftey and unlock the safe next to me.

CZ Rami should be on your list

I paid about $650 for a new one which is out of his price range. And it is much thicker than most CC pistols.

What is the difference between the "Performance Center® Ported M&P®9 SHIELD" and other S&W Shield models?

Depends on the model.

I have the performance center shield 1.0

It came with a sear trigger upgrade, upgraded HIVIZ fiber sights, and factory Ported slide and barrel.

I shot it and my buddies standard 1.0 side by side and it was worth every penny.

This will most likely be my next gun:

EZ Shield 2.0 performance center

It is this one and it says it is discontinued. BassPro has it for $310.

re: Compact 9MM for CC?
Yeah that's the 1.0. I have that same pistol. And that's a good price for a very reliable gun.

The biggest drawback and complaint of that model is that it can definitely take some effort to rack the slide but it's not that big a deal. The other complaint about the shields is the trigger but the performance center solved that.

Here's the Smith and wesson official page for it: LINK

I do plan on selling mine and buying the new S&W performance center shield EZ model eventually.

Currently, it's my second favorite pistol I own.

My Glock 19x remains my favorite gun. I'm a sold fan boy of that pistol. Love it.

I tried to order the S&W from BassPro and they have insufficient stock to process one. I will keep looking.

I was able to order the standard S&W M&P 9MM Shield from BassPro for $349.

Like how this site does the comparisons and analysis.

Also, Impactguns has the Shield right now.

That is the exact same model I have ordered from Bass Pro for the same amount of money. But I will not have to pay a FFL fee to get it. It should be in next week.

1) Taurus G2

I got one of these a month ago (G2C, $239.99), have practiced with it on the range, and got the JHP for it Monday. I liked the 12 round magazines on a smaller gun, as other options carried fewer rounds.
