Does anyone know the quality of deer hunting is in this area? I presume it's probably a Thanksgiving time frame rut but how's the deer population here and do people in the area shoot everything that moves or do a lot of folks manage their land and leases for quality deer. I was told trespassing used to be very prevalent in the area but not sure if that's still the case. Does the area produce quality bucks?

There's a mix which kinda sucks for those trying.

I hunt 300 acres few miles south of Colfax. Not much Quality Deer Management around here, people shoot about anything with horns.
Rut peaks around 15th of November, usually deer go nocturnal after Thanksgiving, this year it was after the 16th,which is the earliest I have seen.
Trespassing is not much problem anymore, used to be pretty bad.
Not many trophy deer on my property, mine is hills with mixed pine-hardwoods.I occasionally get pictures of some monsters but it’s always 1-2:00 AM.,they’re just passing through.
I will say this,my deer hunting has absolutely gone to shite since the wild hogs moved in.
2010-2014,I saw 50 bucks and killed 12,I let a lot of small bucks and some nice ones walk.
Hogs moved in 2015,through 2019 seasons ,I’ve only seen 14 and have killed 11.I killed 2 this past season and let a small spike walk.
I’m the only one hunting this 300 acres so there’s not a lot of pressure.
The quality of the deer seems to be better up towards Montgomery area.People I know kill some monsters and they’re rut seems to be closer to Thanksgiving.
That’s my experience.

Thanks, this is around the Aloha area. Just figured being close to the river it would have some good genetics but quality always depends on what people allow to walk.

I know some folks that hunt around Montgomery and they seem to have a decent sized deer on the place. Body wise and horn wise.

Will do. I don't know all the details yet but once we go look at it we will make a decision if we think it's worth it or not.
