I really don't understand costal opening earlier than the northern part of the state. Is there a logical explanation for this that I'm missing?

The main coastal species are early migrators

The west side of the state gets birds early. The Miami Corp. owns most of the land in that area and their land manager is on the commission (good ole Chad Courville).

ETA: but we are headed to the camp Saturday to make a hunt Sunday morning. Aren't really expecting much, but should be able to get on some fish.

IN!!!!! Just finished loading the truck dropping the little Hammers off to school and headed to the camp. From what I have seen so far all indications are it shouldn't take long to finish up and be fishing! Can't wait!!!!

I suppose that was relevant in your head? Because it sure isn't relevant to the topic. Courville joined the Commission 3 years after the coastal zone was created, and the area encompassed by the current coastal zone has always been earlier than the east zone.

I don't agree with everything Courville does, and he definitely has his own interests in mind when he makes decisions, but that is just nonsense.

Won't get started over here til next weekend. Gonna try to find some birds though.

In.

Not sure what to expect but the opener always gets me excited. This little cool front should help at least keep the mosquitos down.

Larry Reynolds made the recommendation to push back the coastal zone a few years ago. The commission ignored it and left the season early.

Reynolds never made a recommendation to have the season later to my knowledge. In 2013, the Commission went with Larry's recommendation. The recommendation by Larry in 2014 was earlier than what the Pre-Courville Commission decided was best. The reasoning was two-fold. It was supposed to make up for the earlier season in 2013-14, and was supposed to appease the rice farmers and hunters who wanted a later season.

Then came last year, the straw that broke the camel's back. The coastal zone went back to it's more traditional dates. That didn't go over well with the rice farmers and hunters, who voiced overwhelming support of a change in the coastal and east zones, with the rice region that was formerly a part of the Coastal Zone moving to the East Zone and it's later dates.

So I'm not sure what year you are talking about, but the Commission has not set a season earlier than recommended since the 3 zones were created.

After the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission set the duck dates for the 2015-16 season in the Coastal Zone, many hunters were furious that the commission ignored survey data, and moved the season up a week from the dates proposed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Normally, the season in the state's Coastal Zone opens the second Saturday of November. This year, that would have been Nov. 14, which was the proposal presented at the monthly commission meeting by Waterfowl Study Leader Larry Reynolds.

Don't think I could make it. Kind of under the weather the last couple weeks. I do thank you. Maybe in the near future.

I going to try and take out a deer and a couple pigs this weekend. Easy hunts for me. When you want to make a hunt, let me know. Got to kill off the pigs again. They are thick. My daughter has been bow hunting and she has been seeing a shite load of them. She said they kept out of range every time.
