I have a 7 year old chocolate lab who since a pup has not chewed up anything or done anything stupid. The dog was sent for training for 3 months as a pup and is very smart and obedient. All of a sudden tho he has started doing dumb shite. The other day he tore up his bed and scattered the stuffing all through the yard, and now he keeps digging a hole on the side of my house. I was thinking he wanted to find a cool spot but it doesnt make since because i have a covered patio with a breezeway portion going to my house the i keep a fan running for him and the concrete stays cool. I have whipped his as and rubbed his nose in the dirt and he continues to do it every day. . And when i say digging a hole im talking about 1'd x 1.5'w x 4'L. Anybody had a smart lab go full retard when they hit an older age. He still listens to hand signals and all that so i know he isnt losing his mind lol

My lab/Akita mix is pretty well behaved. Doesnt usually dig. My dad must have pissed him off because he went to his house and dug up a bunch of azaleas my dad has just planted and brought them to his dog house. Completely out of character. He is 8.

Sounds like he's bored and/or has a lot of pent up energy.

To stop the hole digging, walk around the yard with a shovel, pick up his Poo and bury it in the holes.

For being 7 the dude is full of energy, my arm gets tired of throwing dummies well before he even thinks about being tired.

The thing that sucks is he is real affectionate.. After a good arse whippin he lays down anytime I go around him for a week... But dangit i am tired of coming home everyday after work and having to fill a hole up.. I talk to him like a human lmao, "Look dog if you gonna be dumb you gotta be tough"

If it's the same spot every day, dump his shite into it. He will stop.

he sounds like he is taking out frustration or pent up energy. Run him. A tired dog is always a good dog.

Make sure he has stimulation throughout the day with bones and toys and stuff.

May be a dumb question but put his shite on top after i fill the hole back up or bury it in the hole?

And i will go buy him some bones and such

Still love him tho, Couldnt ask for a better looking dog! He is all fun and playful but when it comes to hunting he is a different animal. Just wish i had more time to duck hunt these days

He needs entertainment. Buy him a kid or get another dog to keep him company. All he's getting from you is beatdowns for doing dog stuff.
