Very interesting. GM truck buyers tend to be more conservative and like V8 engines so it will be interesting to see how this is receivedz

All the Ford bashing in their commercials and yet they're copying them.

Nice engine. Great design. Great specs. Why in the mother frick would they run AFM on a 4 cylinder? Just let it run for Christ's sake. It's not worth the problems for maybe one extra mpg on the highway

Very shortsighted of them when they bashed Ford. They should have known that with all the demands of fuel economy, emissions, creature comforts, capability, etc that trucks would have to get lighter and that means lighter materials and less of them. Smaller, higher specific output engines also means more is demanded of the lubricants, fluids, fuel, and all the maintenance associated with them.

I wonder how modern trucks compare to older ones with regards to weight. All sorts of safety equipment, bulked up bodies, 20” rims, etc.

2.7 liter is a pretty big 4 banger, probably fairly torquey ,then add the turbo and 8 speed transmission,,,it will probably be OK for general use type stuff, hauling some lumber, whatever.

I don't see much future for pulling a boat,trailer,camper.

So Ford has a 2.7 V6 Ecoboost and Chevy has a 2.7 4 Cylinder Turbo? Interesting.

Another thing that has changed,is transmissions with more speeds.

It allows them to be built with lower differential ratios,to compensate for taking off with the added weight, and still get pretty good gas mileage.

If you have enough gears, you can do almost anything.

My 2000 F150 SuperCab weighed in at 4,550 with 5.4L and supercharger system. A 2018 5.0 SuperCab is 4,533.

The 2.7L 4-cyl Toyota used in trucks was one of the most reliable engines ever (behind the 22R and RE of course)

When I owned my business we got the 2.7 L eco boost on a fleet deal. We towed 6x12 8ft high trailers that avg 3,000 lbs to 4,000 lbs. They did fine. I drove one for two years and for the majority of stuff I did it was great. I even towed a 21 ft progator bass boat and 17ft ranger bass boat no problems. I towed my 21 progator from BR to California delta on business trip and back no issues.

Now my personal truck is an F150 with 5.0 v8.
2.7 advantage - large fuel fuel tank going 800 miles on a tank of gas, great gas mileage, and 2.7 gets up quicker in sport driving mode.

V8 advantage- I think simple will last longer which cannot prove as 2.7 has not been around that long.
It will tow alittle more. I am old school like that rumble of the V8.

GM is trying to raise it gas mileage standards on the Silverado line. Most people just drive around town, haul a few things for weekend projects, and tow small trailer or boat occasionally. This will appeal to those people along with less expensive price tag for fleet vehicles or the consumer.

I’ve always said Chevy should bring back the 4.8L and put a turbo or supercharger on it. Rather than go large-displacement for the number of cylinders plus forced induction, why not go small displacement for number of cylinders with forced induction? I bet they would sell like crazy.

GM really needs to trash this. I have it on my truck, bought a programmer specifically to turn it off. It's not the best solution, but I've heard it is better than letting the engine use it.

How long before they shove this shite down our throats with every car and truck made. When I turn my engine ON I want the son of bitch ON. When I'm ready for the engine to turn off I know where the key is. I may be in the minority, but I feel like truck makers are pushing things on the consumer that some us don't want or need. I'm still pissed that manual transmissions have completely died.

All of this is to meet the Obama mandated 50mpg standard for 2025. Trump is pushing back on this. Call your Congressman or send them an email.

Soon you may not be able to buy a full sized truck with a V8. And a Canyon or Ranger will be the new normal.

The 2.7 in the ford, while a v6, will tow 8k lbs just fine
