I'm going with a group of guys to Fort Walton this weekend for a buddy of mine's bachelor party, and we're taking a charter out of the marina in Destin on Saturday morning.

What's an acceptable amount to tip the first mate? I know they work their asses off, and some are better than others, but I don't want to low ball the guy.

15%

20% if he's a bad arse

At least that's what I would tip the guys around here

I tip the captain and tell him to divide it up as he sees fit

That is a good policy, the 15-20% is how I would delineate what to give the captain, then let him decide how the mate did.

Tip the captain and tell him its for the deck hand that way he can see u are tipping him. Some deckhands may tell the captain you didn't tip so they can get a bigger cut and it makes you look bad if you ever want to go back if he thinks you didn't tip..

15-20 percent, but there are lots of assholes that never tip a dime.
