Changing of the Guard: A New 380

For a number of years I've used a Key-Tec P3-AT for pocket carry as a part of my cc rotation. I'm not the biggest fan of the 380 for self defense, but there are times I can't carry a bigger/more powerful gun. It was carried in the front pocket using a pocket holster from a manufacturer who's no longer making holsters. Although Kel-Tecs don't get much love at the OB, but it was reliable and served me well. Eventually I got tired that it lacked a slide lock. This past Christmas, my children gifted me w/ a Kahr CW380. I really like the CW380. It's a lesser frills version of their P380.
Like most 380 pocket guns, the CW380 is incredibly small and light. The trigger is DAO. Although longer than a Glock trigger, it's buttery smooth and reasonably light at 5.5#. For such a small gun, it's quite accurate. And yes, it does have a slide lock feature. The CW380 pistol has a 2.58 inch barrel, an overall length of 4.96 inches and a height of just 3.9 inches. It weighs just 10.2 ounces without a magazine. The rear sight is drift adjustable. The front sight has a white dot while the rear sight has a white vertical bar. There is no external safety. The gun came w/ only one 6 round magazine. Since Christmas I've been shooting the new gun, breaking it in, familiarizing myself w/ it and becoming confident in it. After deciding I liked it enough to start carrying it, I bought a spare 7 round extended magazine and starting working on a holster. In the meantime I'll use a spare DeSantis Superfly holster. I had a pic of it shooting Federal Hydra Shock very accurately, but apparently lost it.
So now it's time to say "goodbye" to the P3-AT and "hello" to the CW380.
"Old" and "New" 380's w/ holsters and spare mags.

I carry the CM9 in the same pocket holster. I have other guns and holsters but it's my favorite.

If I had to carry a pocket pistol - for whatever reason, it would absolutely be one of the little Kahrs in 9mm.

My dad has been carrying a P380 for years. I honestly think for the size and usability it’s hard to beat it in the realm of micro 380s. Obviously something like the G42 will be easier to shoot but it’s considerably larger than the Kahr.
Congrats on having awesome kids to give you a give like that one.

Just call it a 9mm Kurtz then. John Moses Browning developed the .380, so that is a pretty solid pedigree. I have a Bersa Thunder that you couldn't get me to part with for anything in the world. Is it a Glock 19? No, but it is a really good small package.

I have the CW380 and CM9. Like them both.

Me either. I dont really like it at all to be honest, but I'll take a .380 over a pocket knife.
Right now my carry guns are a p229 and a shield for when I can't tote the big gun.
Does the cw380 have nite sights or can it be fitted with them? Do you have a shield to compare it to size wise?

.380 in your pocket is better than the .45 you left at home.

That DAO trigger would drive me bananas

It's a smooth DA though. It's different.

Cm9 here as well.
Love it
Me too.
I've had the CM9 nearly 2 years. I like it for either OWB carry or pocket carry. Obviously there are a lot of pockets the CM9 won't fit in. That's where the CW380 comes into play.

Don't let today's bad DAO triggers (like the Ruger LCP) spoil you for all DAO triggers. LSUlefty is right. A nice DAO trigger like Kahr's are entirely different. Shoot a nice DAO trigger before your write off all of them.

I opted to switch to the P3AT's .32 sibling. You should also check out the Ruger LCP2.

My CS380 doesn't have night sights, but looks like it can be fitted w/ night sights.
I don't have a Shield to compare w/ the CW380, but here's a side by side pic of the Shield and the CM9. .
Here's my CM9 on top and the CW380 on bottom. The Shield is significantly bigger than the CW380. From holding a Shield, I think it's too big for pocket carry.

The LCP and P3at look to be the same design.
I do think they are the smallest and lightest pocket 380s. I am not looking for comfort with a 380. I am looking for concealability. These two do that.
I used to have a cm9 and loved it until it was stolen. However, in the summer, I am going380 and the LCP and p3at are the smoothest and thinnest I know of.
