Recently got my CCW and I'm looking into insurance. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Establish a relationship with an attorney that you can call day or night also. If an event happens you will want a lawyer almost immediately.

I was under the impression that these were the same thing. How are they different? (Legitimate question )

Regardless of whether they are or not, the way he used the terms interchangeably indicates they are so your question is what's odd.

1. As was suggested, have a good attorney "on call." I would define "good" as being one who is experienced, knows guns, and has a track record of defending innocent people in criminal court (as opposed to cutting plea bargains for drug dealers).

2. Make sure you have homeowner's or renter's insurance. The liability coverage may or may not step in to help you in a civil suit, but you should have this coverage anyway, so civil defense coverage for shootings is lagniappe.

3. There are several good CCW plans out there. I would certainly avoid any of the ones offered by the NRA. Their plans are lousy to begin with (compared to other plans), and their primary underwriter (Chubb, Ltd.) just bailed on them within the last month.

The Armed Citizens' Legal Defense Network ACLDN is still the best combination of (a) coverage, (b) assistance in finding good attorneys, and (c) providing continuing education (in the form of 8 DVD's, books and a monthly journal that you get upon enrolling). USCCA USCCA has a decent set of insurance options. I belong to both organizations, but if I were limited to just one, it would be the ACLDN.

Dawg, some of us are making up a security team for our church. I know that there are additional classes needed besides the ccw. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I heard someone talking about this on the radio here in central MS last week...someone was setting up classes. If I hear it again, I'll pass on the info to you.

Check with your local sheriff's office. I know Livingston Parish did a class a while back.

My Church just did the security training Saturday. We went through our local Homeland Security official assisted by our Sheriffs office. They handled everything and Homeland Security had an emergency plan for our building due to being a public place.
