Chances of state giving up the lake are slim I believe, so duck hunting is not in any real jeopardy. State would just have to dole out the 38 million so that they become the legal owners. Building the dam effectively was an expropriation of the land based on the current ruling. Unless that gets changed, the state has to finish the de facto expropriation by paying the landowners.

To be fair it's not really "public" hunting anyways. I hunted there many years ago and we had a good hunt but I can't imagine fighting the people and the water level the last few seasons.

If the state shells out 38 million for the land I guarantee you they will remove the blinds and stop public blind building or lease out blind spots to make money off it.

Part of the reason they never addressed the blinds was to avoid law suits over ownership of the water bottoms.

The state only has it's self to blame. They have let money influence their decisions in the marsh and in 100s of river lakes.

That place is a logistical nightmare.. Had a guy tell us last year there was a new catuhula lake commission and a new set of rules saying we couldn't have a pit blind I asked if this was appointed by the state or lwdf or what because I never heard of this. and he said it was all brought up at a parish council meeting so they appointed themselves as the commission and made a set of rules. I laughed in his face and told him untI'll a game warden came and told me different I was hunting out of it, he told me they would be out writing tickets opening day.. I asked him where I could find the so called set of rules and he said they were going to post them at the boat launch.. Crooked arse shite going on around there. Never seen that guy again and no rules posted

Even our news channel is missing this point.

They've mostly abandoned them from what little I know, but one of the few times I hunted out there, I hunted with a guy whose family had been there for several generations.

The blind we were in was sitting over an old concrete pit blind that his granddaddy had put in.

I think they basically hunted the pits till the water took them, often sort of coinciding with the end of the puddlers using.

I've only been on the lake a handful of times, but have been with old timers every time.
