We have a place on a lake and my nephew wants me to take him fishing over Thanksgiving, we usually have a few too many beers.

I have a boat with only a trolling motor and was wondering what the law is.

I tried looking it up but failed.

I dont think so, but a trolling motor counts as a motor. Somebody of questionable legal knowledge told me he cant get one in his kayak

Eta: a trolling motor is a motor so yes, if the guy wants to he can book you for it.

Just buy some life jackets. If you're drinking that should be a no brainer.

ETA: I read that wrong, my bad. Yes, you can get a boating while intoxicated while paddling or trolling.

I have all safety requirements, my big motor got flooded and locked up and I haven't replaced it yet.

I usually behave while on the water but we will just be trolling around near the camp

If you’re operating in a public waterway Any boat with a mechanical engine operating while intoxicated is against the law.

I have no idea about LA but in MS if it is under 25 HP it is not considered a motorized vehicle and you can be as drunk as you wish

I believe the law says any means of conveyance so basically you could even get one on a unicycle.

If there's one thing I highly recommend its an inexperienced boater with inferior equipment boating while drunk during the winter.

Far from it, I've been driving/operating boats since I was 7-8 years old.

Nephew wants to build a fire and put yo-yo's out, this usually includes drinking and eating and drinking.

Imagine public intoxication IS public intoxication whether on dry land, in the water, or on a boat.
