Long story short, I have some bare spots that need to be filled and I was going to just go grab a few yards of sod. Is it too late in the season?

I am in Atlanta, but always been told you can do it just before fall. In fact they are replacing the sod in the office building next to mine today. There are about 30 pallets sitting outside now.

It's still summer so sure. Root growth is key just keep it watered. rye grass could hold it over winter for ya until spring if you wanted to go that route.

Yes you can! Otherwise I would be out of business. Spring is obviously ideal but if you don't let it dry out it will be fine thru the winter. I sell sod year round in Ga.

Rye grass instead of sod? Or in addition to? I always hear people say rye grass....but wasn't sure what value it added...keeps the soil from just being bare?

Rye grass is a cool season grass so stays green and puts out roots in the winter. Many people over seed their lawns with rye so they have a green lawn in the winter. Rye will die back when it gets hot.

I seeded my lawn one winter with so called certified rye grass 90 + something percent from pennington seed...

I've been fighting weeds in my lawn since...

Laying sod sounds like an innuendo. Idk what it would mean though.

Right on. Also for people that need to stop erosion in the winter and feed deer.
