I was reading some threads back earlier and got curious. I said to hell with it and inquired to Cabela's regarding their shipping policy to New Orleans. Below is the summary of that conversation. As far as I know, a FOID doesn't apply here, or am I mistaken? Thoughts?

[05:30:45 PM]Hi, my name is Gail, how may I help you?
[05:31:12 PM]You: Good evening, Gail. I'm hoping you can assist me with some verbiage listed on the website that has me a bit perplexed.
[05:32:06 PM]You: "Ammunition is restricted from sale to CT, IL, MA, NJ, NY, New Orleans, LA, and Washington DC." I cannot find anything in local statute regarding why ammo would be restricted for shipment to New Orleans, LA. Any thoughts or reasoning behind the restriction which I believe is stricter than state statute?
[05:34:38 PM]Gail: Some states require a FOID card to purchase ammunition. This card must be shown at time of purchase. Since we do not have a way to store a customer's FOID card in our system, we can not ship ammunition to these States/Cities. This is something that we are currently working on installing.
[05:36:12 PM]You: Interesting...
[05:37:07 PM]Gail: I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused
[05:37:42 PM]You: In an ammo shortage, yes...it has made acquisition problematic for legal firearm owners.
[05:38:41 PM]Gail: Yes, we are having a hard time keeping ammunition in stock in any caliber
[05:39:50 PM]You: I appreciate your response. I'll pass it along to others more knowledgeable than myself so we can begin investigating why FOID is now a requirement on Cabela's end when same is not required by state law. Thank you, Gail.

Anyone more knowledgeable in the law able to shed any kind of light on this for me? General thoughts? I don't live in New Orleans, but hell if it didn't get me intrigued. Thanks in advance, gents.

that’s an interesting problem. my Cliff’s Notes answer is: “ when you let the minority becomes the majority....”
but that is probably an out of bounds answer in today’s hypersensitive society.

This is my thought. Googling does not reveal much of an answer, either. Just a bunch of Illinois stuff.

That said, there is no ammo shop in New Orleans that I'm aware of, but I could be wrong. I usually go to Academy in Gretna. I stopped at Academy by the airport today and they were bare, even for the Remington 12g loads I like.
