Typical M.D.

"I did it, but I don't anymore. So neither should you."

My wife is a vet. I won't compromise her DEA number, but if I got a hold of some I would try it...to hunt with.

If this offends Bumgarnder, he can track my deer.

I do know someone who literally made a terrible shot, hit deer in his leg.. Like 10 inches above the hoof. Deer made it 50yds

I'd be worried about how much a pod would affect my arrow's flight

Not like a rock, but the deer will not make it out of sight. My dad use to use them a while back when he had the hook up in ferriday, la.

Op, I thought they were illegal? Why is that dude posting a pic of himself with them?

Make no mistake the technology has come a long way but the concept remains the same. Even with all the new harmonic this and parallel limb that, the new bows are still only as good as the hunter holding them. The poison suddenly changes that.

A shot that an ethical albeit well equipped bowhunter would pass on now becomes a kill shot. That vital area that used to be defined by a 10" pie plate is now the entire surface area of the deer. In effect ensuring lethality at all ranges below 50 yards by simply making contact.

The way the law is written it is illegal, but it isnt illegal.
It is illegal to posess the poision, not illegal to posess the pod. There are places that sell the pod for a jacked up price, and give you the poision, so they are not illegally selling the poision. Here is one guys explanation on it

The simple answer is that there are no Mississippi game laws that addresses a drugged arrows use, so that's where people say 'it's legal'. Mississippi differs from every other state in that regard.

On the other hand, it's a Federal regulated substance and the Federal arm of enforcement could extract civil or CRIMINAL penalties over the sale or use of the drug according to the numerous postings of the FDA letter I have provided.

Why don't they? They provided examples of where they have intervened in past cases, but I think the issue really is one of lack of enforcement. In the case of federal actions, perhaps there are just bigger fish to fry. Lack of enforcement certainly doesn't make the practice 'legal'; but it allows the use of drugged arrows without undue fear of prosecution. That said, tomorrow is another day and you don't know what their actions may be. All it likely takes is one individual to complain.

they were, at least when we may or may not have used it.. A pod is similar to a condom type thingy that folds back, at least that's the way they worked 40 years ago..

I've heard of them but never seen them. How do they attach to the arrow?

The stuff I have seen was a powder that was under a piece of rubber that was wrapped around the shaft, very close to the broadhead. When the arrow stuck the deer, the friction would pull back the pod and put it in the deers bloodstream
