The Bonnet Carre Spillway could be opened as soon as Friday to divert part of the Mississippi River's flow into Lake Pontchartrain, thanks to continued heavy rains along the mid-Mississippi and Ohio river basins that are expected to raise the river to 17.1 feet in New Orleans by April 11.

The Army Corps of Engineers will make a decision on opening the spillway by Friday.

bullshite, they need to open the Morganza.

Downvoters

Educate me on why the Morganza shouldn't be opened.

The flow rate south of the Morganza would allow sediment to settle, thus resulting in a shallower river bottom. The river has become and estimated 10-15’ shallower from the ORCS to Nola since the last opening because of this.

Once the Morganza is opened again, I think that’s gonna change the river for good.

. Because every time it opens it gets less effective and causes more problems

The morganza isn't the main reason for that but what I see what you are getting at.

Yes it will sooner than most think I believe. What will be interesting is the effort to switch it back once it happens.

Dat Ole Man River plays the long game.

He knows he will win.

That's the show I'm waiting on.
You know 100% that the "leaders" will be just cocky enough to think they can actually do it. Then they will spend trillions attempting, only to fail miserably and be lucky if they spare both BR and Lafayette in the process.

We lived waterfront for several years and I always told my neighbors regarding flooding, “We’re living here because Mother Nature has allowed it. But, every once in a while, when she wants to come in and visit, there isn’t a damn thing we can do about it”.

I’ll pass. I’d rather bitch online. The same people/area get fricked every single time to protect the people that knowingly live in a city under sea level. It’s about time we think about something other than New Orleans

Good buddy of mine lives over in BSL and hes been very vocal about opening the bonnet carre again. He wants the morganza open.

What's amazing is how powerless we are to cut the bottom of the channel down. When you look at very large dredge digging in that river, that big machine dont look like shite. The rivers gonna win
