Now that these units are getting so huge and are exposed on those little mounts, what makes you remove them vs. leaving on? I have already lost one cover on the road. I just took my boat in for new trailer brake system and new charger. Removed both, but exactly sure why I did it.

I leave mine on because it is an old unit and I just don't care.

I never take mine off. I just checked the other day and have 800 miles on the water with it. I figure if it gets knocked off itll be a lesson learned but I dont imagine itll happen

I used to remove mine until I removed and left it sitting on the front deck of the boat instead of putting it inside the truck.

It went flying across Airline Highway at the first left turn I made...

I just keep it mounted on the boat after that loss...

Seems now the newer boats are getting them mounted in the middle of the dash with some serious hardware and with locks. If that was the case I would leave it on. Mine is on a ram mount and I always take it off. Too easy for someone to steal and keeps it clean.

I leave mine on unless I am parking it outside for some reason. I use a velcro strap to hold the cover on my bow unit in place while towing. My unit at the console is flush mounted so the cover stays on.

Theft at a repair center would be the only reason for me to disconnect.

I lost a couple of factory (plastic snap-on) covers on my Lowrance unit when it was new. Quit using the dang things - haven't missed them at all.

Have now lost two and would have been three, but saw the second one fly off by chance. Don't know if I put them on wrong or if they just can't handle the wind.

leave it on, places I fish are no more that 20 miles away or less. Would probably take it off for a longer trip or the highway
