Can someone tell me a hook or a technique to get the hooks out without killing them? When they swallow the hook, I can’t get it out without killing them. I’m using the longest needle nose pliers I can find. Any tips? I’m catching on smal hooks and worm s

cut the line - leave the hook in

That’s really it. If they swallow past the gills that’s all U can do

Ok then. I’ll need to buy wayyyyy more hooks. It’s so fun watching the little ones catching these fish.

Try using a small small jig head. I found using the small jig heads on panfish causes less deep hooking.

Long shank hooks.. I find the long shanks are easyier to remove.

Take some needle nose and make the hook barbless.

Barbless hooks and forceps.
If that doesn’t work, cut the line.

I was going to suggest roach clips, but yes, I guess they're technically called forceps.

Well now, we've found the "Muggle Head" of the group.

Bend the barbs of your hooks down.
You may lose one now & then, but you’ll save many more.

I carry an old dirt bike spoke tool in the boat just for that. It slides down their throat and when it hits the inside of the hook bend, give it a tap and pull the string. Out comes the hook. Use this tool a lot on popping bugs while fly fishing.

Like LAwolf said...jig heads...
however, if you dont want the weight of the jig head, just get long shanked hooks and put a large bend on the upper third of the hook.
that makes it hard to swallow and the real benefit is that it acts like a circle hook in making it hook better.
but again, a 70 to 90 degree bend looks weird, but works to stop the hook swallowing.

Set the hook sooner
maybe, but kids are kids, they see the cork and just watch until it disappears.

Forceps. I carry a pair on a lanyard. Fantastic for getting hooks out of crappie.

Long shank hooks and flatten the barb down.
