Saw my first black widow and got up close and personal with it touching my leg as I was grabbing a chair from my shed. Looked down and immediately saw the red marking. Ran to get some spray and the mfer was gone.

About the burn the shed down. Before I do that I wanted to see thoughts on just putting a bug bomb in there and shutting the door. Shed is a clusterfrick right now and will be a pain to hunt it.

Why didn't you stomp it out or smash it with something from the shed?

I had a lot of them in a barn at my old hunting camp. They are very difficult to eradicate? You have to get the poison on them. I tried bombing with no success and ultimately got ahold of some chlordane which did the trick. IMO just continue to spray. Do it at night and concentrate near the ground. They seem to only come out in the dark and like to be near the ground.

Last week I saw my first one in many years. It was inside of the cable television pedestal. The cable technican said he was always cautious because of his numerous sightings.

Located some wasp spray in short order.

Not sure why I didn't grab something in reach to smash it. Chair was right in front and I was kind of leaning in to grab it. Was barefoot so couldn't stomp.

I wouldn't stress over not being able to kill that one. If there is one you see then there is certainly many more you don't.

Chlordane was some bad sheet. Especially on termites.

I strongly second "Suspend". Use to have a pest control route and this was our go-to for spiders. It has to do with it's formulation.

When I first built my house, I was killing 3 to 4 a day for a few weeks. Stomping and or spraying. After a week or 2 they stopped showing up.

A barefoot could smash it just as well.

That’s absolutely not the product you should be using PERIOD, much less inside a structure.

I used to have lots of them in my yard. I just got some insect for lawns, mixed in pump sprayer, and sprayed the yard and structures. Have not seen but a couple since and that was 14 years ago.

The only safe way is diatomaceous earth.

I have been using Suspend for the last 5 years at my home and office. It's the best. Highly recommend it.

Seems like a lot of trouble for a spider. I've always just pretty much ignored them.

Here's my good laugh at me story of the week. Everyone join in.

So I'm walking out to the garden to check things out. I walk through a spider web. As I noticed I'm walking through it, something comes crawling down my head (shaved head) onto my face, under my sunglasses and on top my eye.

Panic sets in, I punch myself in the face. Dazed a bit, I see said spider has fallen to the abdominal area. I punched myself in the balls.

Spider falls to ground and crawls off, probably laughing at me. No idea what kind it was.

I didn't even go check the garden, I went back inside and got a beer. Defeated

When I was in my teens, I used to help my grandfather selling watermelons that he raised. We'd start the day early in the field picking the ripe melons. Every third one or so would have a black widow under it. Eventually I learned to just swipe them off the watermelon with the back of my hand and move on.

Seriously, when is the last time anyone here got bitten by a black widow?
