Haven’t purchased binoculars in decades and looking to upgrade. Is the technology available at the consumer level for glasses that have some sort of stabilizing feature, especially zoomed in at distance?

Use a ball cap. Flat bill won’t work, has to be a real hat.

Same. I clamp binocs to bill with hands while looking. Good enough stabilization.

Also consider how much magnification you really need. Over 10x is hard to keep steady without a tripod. 8x is plenty in lots of places.

What is consumer level? I think the sig image stabilization stuff can be had for not crazy expensive. Pretty cool to think of hand holding 16s.

I agree with the guy above me, I don’t understand how 10s are the universally recommended starter bino. I can’t hand hold 10s any better than I can 12s, and I can’t hand hold 12s. I use 8s unless I have a tripod.

When I looked at Vortex Vipers, the 10s and 8s were exactly the same size and weight. Was looking for 8s but out of stock when I got the 10s. Perceived shakiness will be less in the 8s but not because of physical ability. 12's are usually in the 12x50s so weight plus perceived is amplified.

There are some good image stabilizer binos out there. Sig Sauer and Nikon are two to look at. I have Steiners but they are a bit more pricey.

Agree with this. I have 12x, but I’m in the delta looking at deer 500-1000 yards away sometimes. I’m either going to be looking at them out of my truck, so that’s not hard to get stabilized, or I use the hat clamp method.

If I still hunted in the hills where max yardage is 300 or so yards, I’d be back in the 8-10x range.
