I'm spending a week in NW Missouri in November public land hunting and researching drag sleds.

Does anyone here have any recommendations/ experiences with drag sleds? I'm looking at this one from Cabela's:

I have experience with that jet sled duck hunting with The Last Coco and I 100% guarantee that you can have it overflowing with shite and it will not flip over, even on the roughest terrain.

I'm wondering about strapping it around my chest for dragging. A mature buck in those parts could be 300 pounds and I foresee a conundrum on my hands if I have a long haul.

Field dress it. That should help immensely. The sled can handle 300 pounds and I've had buddies use mine to drag out deer (granted they weren't 300lb deer but still).

I use one pretty much every time I duck hunt and highly recommend them. Figure out a way to connect it to a drag harness and you'll be in business.

Does this have some advantage to just using a deer cart? Surely it can't be easier to pull vs. something with wheels on it?

Over certain terrain is has an advantage. The sled with float and will drag over top of soft mud much easier than a cart. On hard, flat ground though, the cart is superior.

Gotcha. Makes sense. I put wheel barrow tires on my cart. it helped a lot for wet ground and dry ground for that matter.

Do you have the option of taking the deer apart where it falls?

That's a great place; definitely gets crowded for rifle season. Good luck

We are going after the first weekend, so hoping the pressure will cool down a bit. We will arrive on Thursday the 16th.

There are several other CAs in close proximity that will also be considered. Another option is taking a boat to come in off the river and get away from the other hunters. If we do this, the sled wont be that big of an issue.

It sounds like you are familiar with the area. I'm open for any tips you can provide. 4lsu2td@gmail.com.

I've been once, but it was archery the week before rifle kicked in. The rut runs the week before rifle and into it. Being so close to Iowa, everyone else from out of state has same idea to get in as far away from trails as possible...buddy and I went 300 yards from the north parking lot on finger ridge and both tagged nice bucks and a doe. Good luck to yall.

We are headed to southern MO this year; crazy the amount of deer in them Ozarks.
