Just a bleach and water mixture? I want to clean it up and then stain it.

Have you thought of replacing it?

Jomax more than just bleach. Those pickets look pretty rough though, I'd think about replacing.

I second the Jomax. It is my go-to for cleaning a house prior to prepping to paint. Mix the Jomax, a little bleach and water in a pump sprayer and spray a nice section of fence, come back and hose it off with a pressure washer if you have one for the best results.

I've used just a plain hose to hose down painted surfaces, but those boards are real rough and that crap is deep in there.

Yeah I currently rent so I’m sure my landlord wouldn’t want to replace them but I’m tired of looking at them like that

From the looks of that fence a pressure washer will finish it off more then it would clean it,landlord would be sending you a bill for rebuilding it. I would replace it and ask LL if he would deduct the cost from your rent.

Try some Thompson’s Deck/Fence Cleaner from Lowe’s/HD. Agree with others to not use a pressure washer in that wood.

I’m going to try Jomax and a hose and see how it looks.

Jomax or bleach def will work, but the garden hose nozzle won't do it as well as a PW.Also keep in mind after it's cleaned you will need to either seal it or stain or paint it or it will look like it does now in a couple months. I clean and do rebuilds on fences so i have see this many times. If you do use a PW just don't get too close to it especially at the top where the boards are clearly rotting, it will take chunks out of it lol

Nah, you can keep the nozzle far enough away from the fence to not eat into the wood. My pressure washer has 4 tips that go from a very tight straight stream that would cut those boards in two, to a wide fan that would be perfect for that job.

Use the right spray tip and clean it good. The stuff you buy is going to look just like that if you don’t stain and/or seal it

I believe you are closing the gate after the horses have gotten out on that fence. What's the deal with the drain at the bottom of the fence?

I agree but it looks terrible and I can’t stand it so I’m going to try and put lipstick on this pig. Hopefully it will look a little better

thats wood rot, replacement is the only cure for that.

a pressure washer will blast it to pieces so spray it down good with a 50/50 bleach and water solution and call it a day, then you will have until spring to start shopping for a replacement fence

Really, what will you be out??? $30 worth of bleach, Jomax, if you use it, some water and a couple hours of your time.

Worth a shot.

It definitely helped going to do another wash this week and see how it turns out. That jomax is some pretty good stuff.

ETA: probably going to make it a little stronger next go around

If this video is to be believed, he tests out quite a few products including simply pressure washing and finds that a product called 30 second Cleaner works the best. Fast forward to 17:30 for results.

You don't need 3000 psi, 2700 is fine and no bleach, just water
