Looking into buying an AR so I can eventually have my kids shoot 300 blackout until he gets old enough to go up to a .270.

Pick another cartridge. The 300 BLK is a slouch in the ballistics dept. Get him a 7mm-08 or if you looking for an excuse to get an AR15 look into the 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 SPC.

Like the AR platform with the ability to shorten the stock. And for the look. And it gives an excuse to hug an AR lol!

You should talk to Prop about having him build you a sweet arse 6.5 Grendel.

My 6.8 SPC on a AR platform was fairly cheap to build and is a deer killing machine out to 300 yards.

I had 2 300 blackouts and as said, the ballistics are pretty bad. Inside 150-200 yards they're ok for deer hunting but they won't do much more than my 6.5 grendel will do at those ranges. However, my Grendel will keep knocking them down way past 200 yards. Recoil is about the same between the two and you can get steel cased wolf brand ammo in the 6.5 for cheap and you and your kid can shoot all day for not a lot of money.
