Best mountain cabins within driving distance from LA

Looking to book a mountain trip this fall but would like to keep the drive under 12 hours if possible. Are there places as nice as Gatlinburg that are closer?
Not a skiing trip.. just a nice cabin with big arse balcony to cook, drink, and relax.

What part of La? I really want to do a similar trip to the Ozarks. Not sure exactly how far of a drive that is.

You gotta have mountains to have mountain cabins. Try northern Arkansas.

Pigeon forge is 10.5hrs from BR per Google. You can be in the Ozarks in around 8hrs. Never spent time in either, but there appear to be numerous cabin options in the Ozarks.

Save an hour or two by looking in North Georgia/Southeast Tennessee. Mountains won't be as big, but it will still be nice.
My best pick would be West North Carolina. Around Cashiers/Highlands area, but that is further than Gatlinburg.

Yea, I think the Ozarks is what the OP is looking for.

Eureka Springs is beautiful. Not much to do but shopping. Beaver Lake is close by though. My wife and I passed through it a couple years ago. Only spent a day there.
The Appalachian side of North Carolina has some beautiful areas and is about a 10-11 hour drive. I'm sure they have some nice mountain cabins around there. Highlands, Deep Creek, and all around the Nantahala Forest is really nice.
ETA: Wife and I are actually going back to Highlands next month. Without the kids this time (brown chicken brown cow). We went last year and really liked it there. Highs in the mid 70's and lows in the 50's in August. Gonna take some hikes and do other things we couldn't do last year while the kids were with us.

Broken Bow has a bunch of really nice cabins/log homes.

Ozark mountain trip. They are great. I've been several times.

Eureka is nice but in the fall most of the shops and stuff shut down.

If I was going in the fall I would check out Mt. Home.

Check out big cedar lodge in Missouri. Its owned by bass pro shops. We drove through it and its massive. Has cabins in the mountains and on the lake. Can rent boats for the lake or just hide in the mountains.

10 HRS from southern La
Been looking at the Ozarks for my next trip. Just got back last week from the Pigeon Forge area and it was amazing. The nature stuff, not the tourist trap shite. The cabin was nice but nothing worked. We are sitting at 50% money back as of now and still have not collected on our invoice for fixing their dryer. Want to check out the Ozarks next as the drive is similar road time.

About the same.

Pigeon Forge is entirely too "carnival" for my liking.

Never have stayed at a state park. Usually rent a cabin somewhere. I believe that's the best way to go

And the Ozarks are full of potential carneys.
You're right though, Pigeon Forge has more tourist traps.
