Where would you purchase hunting land (deer, turkey, squirrel, etc.) in Mississippi east of Interstate 55? TIA

There’s a small area around the Big Black in the Pickens, Vaughan, and Canton area that’s immediately east of I-55 that’s pretty strong. Other than that, probably the Golden Triangle.

Where would you consider the best area west of 55 along the Big Black?

If you don’t mind it being up north I’d say near Ashand near Wolf River, second choice would be near Bear Creek in the very northeast of the State. Third would be Shukualak MS or somewhere along the Noxubee River.

Huh, I would have thought further south and west.

I’ve been in northern Choctaw co. on the Big Black. And South Webster co. for over 10 years now... and it absolutely sucks. Just seeing any brown creature is a good weekend. Seeing any kind of scraggly rack is a once a season occurrence.

There’s a good bit of agriculture along the Big Black from 55 over to Bentonia/Flora area. It rivals some of the best hunting along the MS River. After you get on the other side of Bentonia going SW, it falls off a bit because it’s more hilly terrain.

Around Meridan has been very quietly becoming very solid again and turkey hunting is better than north of 20 but deer are not as great but land available and not heavy pressure on deer
