Stick your paddle down to see how deep it is

Check out the Humminbird Helix 5 G2. You can get them with just sonar and/or down imaging for around that price.

GPS is useful but not necessary. I do like to use mine to find the deeper holes when fishing in the marsh. Keep it simple.....

I have a Garmin striker 4cv. I don't know if it's the best, but it works fine for me and meets your criteria.

I have a Lowrance Hook series that I bought a few years ago. It’s easy to use and it’s a blast to come across a big school of sandbass and see the mayhem that’s going on beneath the calm surface.

Get as big of a screen as you can but think through placement so it doesn’t get in your way. Budget some money for a good battery and a way to mount your transducer.

I was super excited to get one for my kayak and then found that I really didn't like using it that much. I have a dragonfly and it works great, but I find myself leaving it at the house most of the time. I enjoy the simplicity of only bringing a handful of stuff when I go. That said, I'm one of the few idiots that still uses a paddle kayak, rather than pedal, so don't listen to me.

This is a reason I never got one

Every trip I leave more at home and still have too much shite.

Paddle, if it's over the paddle it's deep.
