Best Day in Boat Owner's Life....
Posted by NYCAuburn on 10/8/18 at 11:08 am260
When it goes up in a storage fire...
86 boats near me went up over the weekend
a 2003 Nautique is what is in the last photo. Not mine, but was for sale for $30k less than what insurance is about to pay on it

The owner of that loan survivor in that pic is likely pissed.

I’m sure a bunch are damaged from the heat being nearby, so there may not be many survivors

On the bright side, most insurance on boats pays what you insure it for. When I lost my Pathfinder, I got exactly the amount it was insured for. Paid $30,000 for it used and got $30,000 5 years later. Not a bad deal.

You were not equally compensated.

His loan will survive, and that is why he is pissed.

Is there anything that depreciates more, or faster, thank a boat or rv?

Swimming pool?

It was a 2005 2200 Tournament Edition Pathfinder when I purchased it for $30,000 in 2012. I lost it in Tropical Storm Cindy on Big Lake in June, 2017. Essentially, I didn't lose a dime (although I did spend a lot of money keeping it up), hence, Bust Out Another Thousand. Replaced it with a 2010 24 ft Haynie HO.

Maybe initially a boat but they plateau. And you can get deals on boats depending on economy. My current boat is worth only about 20% less than what I paid 10 years ago. And that’s not what I think it’s worth but what they are actually selling it for.
Update on the op. The Nautique pictured was going to be sold for 15k or less. Owner is now going to collect $43,200 very shortly.
No cause of fire yet. But if you see the photo with the yellow tape, that is the area of the fire origin. My guess is something involved with winterization of a boat.

He’s pointing out that due to time value you did “spend” money. It’s not really applicable to a depreciating asset, but internet points are tough to come by I guess.

Boats are like women.....very expensive but damned useful when you are in need of one.
Every time I’ve ever been without a boat I was happier than a pig in slop.....for about 30 days. I won’t even pretend any longer....I’m a boat junkie....I’ve gots to have me some boats about the place....I ain’t happy unless there’s at least $30k worth of fiberglass or aluminum going to rack an ruin in my shop at any given moment.
If I’m healthy enough to use a boat at least once a month I will never be without at least one again. Everything I enjoy in life that does not involve anyone other than me is related to a boat. Yes, they are expensive and they are a pain in the arse.....but they are worth every dime and second of aggravation because they take me offshore and back, to the duck blind and back and, on occasion, serve as the blind. Hard to catch fish without a boat. Truth be told I’ve spent more money on boats than women.....but there ain’t no perfect boat....I caught the perfect for me woman on the first cast!

I bought my last tournament boat in 2012 for 42k (to be fair I got a sponsor deal on pretty much every single component) & I sold it last week for 39k. I'm feeling pretty good about it right now...
