What do you guys think the best bolt action 22lr is for under $500?

I have not messed with a CZ so I can’t comment to that but I do have a Ruger Precision .22 that I love. It is extremely accurate.

For budget, I bought this earlier in the year based on alot of recommendations from this board. It's very affordable and I like it so far.
Ruger American Rimfire 22LR Bolt Action
Edit to add- I did not pay that price earlier this year, prior to pandemic and race war. They bumped the price.

Cz455 or 457. Or the tikka t1x.

Hands down CZ455, and you can buy barrel sets to change to .17hmr, or .22mag. I don't think you will find anything more accurate.

I have the ruger in 22 wmr. It's a tack driver.

Another vote for the Ruger. Mine is in .22WMR.

CZ455. If it’s like my 452 the trigger job on them takes nothing to do. Check out rim fire central forum.

I have a hard time believing there a better value than any of the Savage B series rifles. Mine was under $200 and stacks holes. It's probably not as nice as a CZ from a craftsmanship standpoint but it's not getting out shot by anything in that price range.

Picked up the tikka t1x last year. Absolute tackdriver.
Sounds like an old lady fart when shooting subs with a suppressor On the end.

"Best bolt action 22 for the money?" I'd say a Savage. Much more accurate than one should expect for their price.
"best bolt action 22lr is for under $500?" IF the budget goes to $500, I'd then suggest either a Tikka T1x or CZ 457. I've always wanted a CZ and was planning on buying one last spring when they came out w/ the 457 (Americanized safety and a few other changes). Unfortunately, when it actually came to market, they'd discontinued the one I wanted (synthetic stock w/ 20" medium weight threaded barrel) so I got the Tikka. The Tikka's not disappointed me. It's very accurate. I see where CZ now has the model I originally wanted. Given the above specs, the CZ is a little less expensive and is well within your budget. The CZ also has an adjustable trigger whereas the Tikka doesn't. I don't have a CZ, but I shot a friends (17 HMR) on a prairie dog hunt last week. He killed a bunch of pd's. His 17 HMR is a little more accurate than my 22LR.

This.
Nice to see KRG is supporting it with their stocks now.

Best value the Savage MKII or B series. MKII has more value but the extra price of the B series adds some niceties I think are worth the extra money.

I own several Savage and CZ rimfire rifles. The Savage is neck and neck with The Czs for accuracy and have a great price. The CZs are just nicer rifles. They cost a little more, but I think you get more than your money's worth in the details.

You should consider a Savage A22.

A stock 10/22 just isn't very good out of the box. Extraction issues and heavy trigger are the two biggest issues. $13 Kidd extractor and $50-60 for a Brimstone trigger or Volquartsen target hammer is a minimum. Ruger American and Savage both have much better triggers out of the box.

I didn't want to say it. I bought one of The Ruger 10/22s with the scope deals about 3 years ago, it even came with a case for about 350 bucks I think. I bought a Savage model 62 (I think it was) the same week, less than 100 bucks at Walmart. Stuck a cheap Tasco scope on it and took them both to the CMP range for the first time together. Both were equally bad. I got rid of both of them with a quickness.
If, at this point in time, I didn't have any .22 rifle, I think I would find a nice used old Remington 552, they will shoot short, long and long rifle ammo in a pinch. Better yet, would be the old model 550, they are super accurate, but pretty hard to find.
