What's the best AR for ~$800?

Probably a build through PSA with the best stuff that they have to offer. Or the Ruger AR556 I would assume.

Grabagun has sales several times per year. You can get a Colt LE6920 with magpul for $850.

CMMG makes a good gun. not a fan of that style of keymod rail, though. still feels sharp like a quad rail (as opposed to the rounded profile of the KMRs, NSRs, etc)

Buds has Adams Arms piston ARs for $589. They are blemished, but that is a pretty good price on a piston gun.

Save $300 more, go to bowies and get a Daniel Defense.

Yes, just got one. $1059 I believe is the price I paid. I was surprised myself.

Damn - Carson, that is a good deal. You expect this wonderful buyer's market for ARs to continue?
I'm a simple man with simple tastes - I'm probably going with the Ruger, but still.

For that coin I'd have to get an M1A
