Wife has given me the ok to buy an AR 15 but I have been wanting a M4 forever. Can I use this for doves and ducks? I know they make chokes for this gun. Pistol grip or no pistol grip? I would like to use this gun for something other than target practice at the range. I know I would have to spend an extra $400 to get the 7 round tube and buy two other parts to make it ATF compliant.

Just curious for around the same price what kind of AR 15 would you get? I really know nothing about AR 15s.

You are in the “high end” AR realm at that price.

You could buy a $900 AR and a $900 shotgun for the same price as a Benelli. Go that route..

What do you mean ATF compliant?

The gun has an 18.5” barrel. You could definitely hit birds with it but there are way too many better options out there for hunting.

Let's just say you are around $2400 for the M4 plus whatever else you want to do with it. You could get a pretty good setup. You could build something nice or buy a KAC or LMT with no optic or BCM with an optic and money to spare for ammo. Plenty of other brands too that i could list. I hate pistol grip shotguns but you may like it.

John Wick would wreck a dove field.

There's something oddly awkward about them and I don't know why

Get an M1 Super 90 on Gunbroker for about $700 and you will have a great fun for ducks and home defense.

Buy an FN SLP for the tactical shotgun and use the $1400 left over for a ruger guide gun .338 win mag and a scope

That's what I'd do

922(r). Btw, I dont think anybody has ever been charged with a 922(r) non-compliance. My assumption is if they charge you with that, you have already fricked up beyond belief (murder or something). It's just something to tack on. I wouldn't worry too much.

You’ll need a limiter plug to hunt migratory birds. Only allowed 3 shells in the gun. You’re going to have a shotgun that’s meant to hold 6, only holding 3 for home defense. It’s also going to limit your shot distance while bird hunting because of the shorter barrel. I would go a different route unless you’re planning on removing the plug every time you get home from hunting and putting it in every time you get to the field.

Best semi auto shotgun ever created. Sorry, it is not for hunting birds.

There is not another shotgun in the world that holds a candle to the M4, nothing comes close.

If you want something for ducks or doves and want to stick to a benelli, then go with the M2 Field. You can snag it from 1000 to 1200 and then spend the rest of your budget on an AR-15. You can find deals for a solid AR around $500 and then put upgrades on it such as grips, scopes, etc.

Just my opinion.

I would't. Hunting shotguns should be for hunting only. Too many headaches otherwise

If you're just wanting a tac shotty for home defense, a M4 is fine

If you ever plan on doing 3-gun/competition stuff, get an M2 instead. I deliberated for months between the Taran Tactical variants of the M2 and M4 until Taran convinced me to go with the M2. Glad I listened.
