definitely a grizzly .... I'll research tagged bears in YS and see if that bear is being actively tracked. Go to this site below

Yellowstone Grizzly Project where you can enter sightings and track bears

edit: unless I read it wrong, only females are tagged to monitor their activity of breeding and raising cubs

I thought Grizzly. I showed the pic to the guy at the outfitters we rented bear spray from and he said he thought black because the minimal hump. I figured the Outdoor board would enjoy a good bear ID. He did have a collar.

You should’ve tried to put a leash on him.

I opted to just rub his belly and say “who’s a good boy?! Who’s a good boy?!”

That must be why she got so pissed when I rubbed her belly and said “good boy” I miss gendered her

I think the hump is small because the bear is young. I’ll say Griz. We need Roger from Alaska to chime in.

Best way to ID it is for you to get about a meter away and look into its eyes.

Looks like a young grizzly but I’m not sure I’d be close to 100%. Small jump and paws look huge for its size. Where is that? Were you zoomed in or really close? Pretty cool. I’d think with the color phase the rangers would know that bear?

But part of it could just be the photo and a large black bear.

That was near the Norris Geyser Basin. More specifically on Norris Canyon Road near the Loop but right where the road crosses Gibbon River.

Google Map Link to the spot

We were in our car driving to the lodge for the night. It crossed one car in front of us. Some idiot was walking about 15 yards away from it with his cell phone so we were doubly safe having a fool and my car between my family and the bear.

It wasn't terribly big.

That ones tough because of the dark color fur, but the ears, and slight hump, and face make me think brown bear.

No, flew back last night. We spent 4 nights in Glacier and 2 in Yellowstone. Back to reality tomorrow after a hot arse day of cutting my grass today.
