The Yamaha Bassmaster Redfish Cup Championship presented by Skeeter will be held Nov. 10-12 in Port Aransas, Texas, with 10 teams targeting the powerful predator fish that reside in brackish water marshes and often reach weights of more than 40 pounds. The two-person teams will compete with no entry fees for a top prize of $50,000.
The Redfish Cup field will feature six teams from the Elite Redfish Tournament Series, Power-Pole Pro Redfish Tour and Redfish World Series, along with four all-star teams made up of a redfish pro paired with a Bassmaster Elite Series angler.

Great news.
Would love for this to get big again and BASS hold Louisiana's feet to the fire by continuing to refuse to hold tournaments in south Louisiana.... the redfish capital of the world...
Have them in Tx and Florida a few times a year and pump millions into the respective sates economies...
While Louisiana can't get out of it's own way...

I'm 100% ok with less tower boats going up and down marsh banks in South Louisiana

They have to do something. MLF is killing them.

100% agree, true tower boats are very good at what they do, and have made sight fishing much easier for many.
They also are aggravating as hell when bigger tournaments are in town.
I liked what Redfish World Series was looking to do, ban "burning of ponds and banks" two weeks prior to each event. But RWS canceled their 2021 season.
"Burning" gives the sport a black eye and needs to kept in check. You can't rely on "sportsmanship" of everyone in the field when a tournament and money is on the line, that's just reality

Can you explain this more?

There is a method of looking/scouting for reds where you you stay on plane at low speeds while standing on an elevated deck (eyes at 8 to 12 feet above the water) and don't get off plane for hours.
This method is very successful when done with a "tower boat". True tower boats have controls/steering on the elevated (6-8 feet high) center console, are very wide, have a true tunnel hull, and can run in as 6 inches of water at very slow speeds despite being 22 foot long and running V6 outboards.
You stay on plane nearly all day and fish very little, simply mark spots and return later... .that's burning...
Redfish World Series was going to be one of the first to actually ban burning 2 weeks in advance of the tourney, I had actually registered for the tourney, only for the plug to get pulled.

Totally agree. I have a tower boat and do fish some of the series and no I don't burn banks and do call out those I see doing it. For someone asking, burning banks is when you run your boat on plane at low rates of speed and stay about 20 yards off the bank looking for redfish wakes and pushing fish as you run down the bank. All it does is dirty up the bank for others and is the lazy way of scouting.

A select few towerboat owners have ruined it for the rest of us. I hate it when people say that towerboats have run off all the fish or destroyed the marsh or whatever. I agree that burning should be banned but not everyone who owns a towerboat does this. It's no different than all the idiots wanting to ban AR's because a select few nutjobs went on a shooting spree with one.
As stated above, you don't have to be right on the bank or shoreline to spot fish.
The RWS was really onto something huge & it really sucks that it was cancelled this year. I can assure you that it had nothing to do with the burning rule though. I know the owner /tournament director personally. He also started the NRS (National redfish league) but had to cancel it as well. Really hoping it comes back next year though.

Everyone who owns a tower boat for any length of time has burned banks thats not up for debate. I don't blame them for doing it, its incredibly efficient way to find fish.
I've competed for 15 years in refish tourneys, have slacked off the last 4 years due to family priorities.
Have very close friends with tower boats, they have all burned banks. Its not rare, its the majority and one of the reasons for even owning one.
Majority are very respectful of other boats and stay away from others they see on the water. They can always return later in the day or the next.
If someone owns a tower for a few years and have never burned banks, they are a unicorn.

What happened? Was it due to Gritter's health issues?

This is the key... The few that aren't respectful ruin it for the rest of us...

it's a private matter but yes.

Is there a reason not to just ban tower boats from redfish tournaments? Given that doesn’t mean anything for scouting, but still.
I love a good 20+ ft tower boat for fishing near and offshore fwiw, nothing better than catching some snapper, sight fishing mahi, then getting catching some inshore species on the way in.

The issue is burning, not towerboats themselves. The act of burning can be accomplished in a non towerboat by simply putting a man on a sight casting platform while another guy drives the boat from below. Its a little sketchy but its done everyday.
As mentioned above, burning is simply a shortcut to scouting for fish.
The question is at what point does something become an unfair competitive advantage? Is a 6ft topdrive tower any more unfair than a boat with a 400hp motor that runs 100mph?
I have a towerboat because I like to sight fish in the marsh and its easy to do from the tower.

Yeah but it’s a lot harder to do and not nearly as effective without a tower. I’m saying the tournaments could easily just not allow any platforms to be used at all. Fishing from a deck only. If everyone is on the same playing field would decrease some of the dumbassery.
I don’t disagree on motor size, wouldn’t have an issue with tournaments having a HP Max. The reason that will never happen is sponsors, and boat and motor companies want their tourney. Guys showing off the latest and greatest

The Elite Series put a speed limit in place, can't remember if it is 65 or 70 mph. Lots of go fast boats have to throttle back and watch their speeds. As far towers go as long as they are allowed to compete or to be used to pre scout areas then they have an advantage in redfish tournaments. The Elite already has the no burning clause in their rules, before all the single man tournaments where the anglers were not given their fishing location until the morning of the tournament last year as soon as they got to the ramp the anglers were given an hour "scouting" period. So they all jumped up and were running all over the marsh in their tower boats, but that somehow is not burning??? My preference is they put everyone on the deck and even the playing field, btw I have a tower boat to go with my go fast boat and would be lying if I said I've never burned in it as would about 99% of tower boat owners out there if they were being honest. I don't do it when other boats are around in the area I am looking at which helps with user conflict but still has negative effects which I recognize and I seldom do it anymore.
As far as the original post, I'm glad to see BM stepping back onto the Red Fish game with the IFA and RFWS getting canceled this year but the tournament they are doing this year is basically a for TV special that only 10 red fish anglers are going to be able to participate in, got several buddies that will be in the running for those spots though so it will be damn cool to see one of them teamed up with a KVD fishing in my back yard for a carp
