Budget?
OB loves spending other people’s money.

Preferable less than $150.
Spinning or bait caster. I don’t care. Have a spinning reel now but it’s to long and bulky for bass, mainly reds and trout with that guy

Lew’s Speed Spool combo is good bang for your buck.
Also
Abu Garcia Revo X combo
ETA: both of these are pretty good “all purpose” rod and reels.

Get something good, stay away from Ducketts, Lew's (rods), low end BPS stuff, and combos.
I prefer Fitzgerald, Loomis, and Falcon.
As far as a reels go Shimano and Daiwa
Spend the money and you will be happy.

Check out tacticalbassin on YouTube for their buyer's guide on combos under $100 or under $200 for some ideas.
This might get some hate but Okuma is one of the best value brands in fishing. An Epixor or Reflexion rod and Epixor reel will be right at $150-160.

not China.
OP, don't buy a combo. Get a lower end St. Croix rod and a Shimano SLX reel.
