Hey baws. Now that I’ve been getting settled up in Birmingham after the move I’m thinking about trying out guntersville. Need to get back to my bass fishing roots after fishing primarily saltwater down in Nola for my entire life. Obviously not looking for spots but more of what to expect on guntersville. From the research I’ve done, it seems if the fish aren’t up shallow spawning they’re going to be on the ledges in roughly 4-7 feet. Is that accurate for this time of year? Does anybody have an idea of what the fish are doing up there right now? Still on beds? Post spawn? Appreciate the help and looking forward to joining the zoo of boats up there.

Start at Lake Martin. Closer, and it is a numbers lake. Once you get used to the area, you can branch out to Smith, Guntersville, Eufaula, etc.

That's horrible advice. Martin or Eufaula ain't a Guntersville or any TVA lake for that matter. Best advice I can give you is go on a big tournament weekend and ride and around and mark all the boat locations on Guntersville. Go back during the week and whack them At least that's how I feel "my" spots are being treated.

ETA: To answer your question honestly, they should be post spawn or spawn. Your roadmap would be to check out this past weeks MLF tourney on Pickwick. Shallow ledge hydrilla and transition areas produced as did shallow bedding fish still in spawn.

Agree even with the pressure at Guntersville, you’ll still catch some nice fish.

Have to agree that the coosa river lakes are closer and fishing is usually good. Guntersville is great but if you are in the b’ham metro area it is a long haul. Try them all. And Lewis smith to the west is gorgeous and produces well. Might want to think about joining a local bass club too.
