Best places to wet a line from the bank within an hour of Lake Charles? Needs to be easily accessible and not an alligator hole or snake pit. Will have a toddler with me.

Hackberry.
ETA: HWY 27 has a few nice little piers you can fish off of. Its where we go crabbing.

Doesn’t really matter. Visiting some family and a few of us are looking for something to do tomorrow afternoon. None of us thought to bring a boat

Lacassine reserve for fresh water.

The pier at Walter Umphrey State Park at the Cameron/ Pleasure Island causeway. Big concrete L shaped pier. It is on the Texas side but you can fish it with a LA saltwater license. You just have to follow Texas Law on length and limits.

Is this serious fishing? For adults or mainly something to keep kids entertained?
Sam Houston Jones State Park is fun for kids. Probably catch plenty of perch either on the river or fishing the ponds.
I'd also consider going down to Johnson's Bayou and fish the rocks. Haven't heard any reports, but you could catch specs, reds, sharks, and just about anything else that swims in the gulf.
Edit: I'd stay away from Hog Island Gully and similar areas along 27. You probably will not catch fish or crabs, but you will probably get herpes and a sunburn.

Watch dem chilrens on dat beech or put them on tie outs for safety. Wind scheduled light and variable so they may has some trout on da rocks. Opening night, glow, pank or chart on 1/4 jighead will work wondas.
