I am looking to take my kids do some bank crabbing. Where are the best areas to go? I am in Lafayette but will travel anywhere.

We used to smoke em in hackberry. Not sure if they’re there now though.

ETA: Just had a patient tell me that they caught 7 dozen this weekend at rockafella

Price lake rd over at rockefeller is probably your best bet. You can crab around the state park at cypremort point. That would be a little closer.

Just crab off the side of the Price Lake Rd. Take the road all the way to the back and put lines out on the right side for the 100 yard stretch or so before you get to the pier. That's where I've done the best. If they're slow, just move around until you find them.

We caught these in the spot I'm telling you earlier this year...

Is there a tide chart for that area or does it matter. Turkey necks and string?

I usually go by the Mermentau River Entrance, but I don't think it really matters for crabs. I generally prefer chicken leg quarters over turkey necks. Super One has 10# bags for $4.70 I saw yesterday.

Dang, those are some nice crabs. Are you talking about where the road curves to the right?

We caught those along where I have the line drawn here, but I'd spread a few lines out all over. People catch all off those piers too, but it's generally smaller crabs from what I've seen.

Cool. Thanks. Other than a license what all is needed? Do I need to get a pass?

Nope. Don't need a thing.

One tip I'll suggest...sometimes the bait wants to float, if you have some large nuts or weights, bring those and slide them down the sting until the bait gets waterlogged.

Cool. Thanks. Hope the weather is good.

ETA: Based on the moon it looks like I might be a week late.

Janky, we always go south of Hackberry off of Hwy 27. Theres a few places right off the road. The two times we went this summer we caught 4 and 5 dozen of nice crabs. I hear Rockafeller has places as well.

Head to Hackberry and start at the the Hog Island Gully spot and work your way south on Hwy27. I caught 4 dozen 3 weekends ago on chicken thighs within a matter of ~3 hours hours.

3 buddies of mine went down to do some bank fishing along Island Road in Point aux Chenes a while back and ended up coming home with an entire ice chest filled with crabs caught along the bank.
