Bamarep had an "oh shat" moment on the river Friday

So I head to the river by myself for a little early AM bass fishing (7 dinks) and upon seeing rain off decide to head in around 10. Sure enough the bottom falls out. Thankfully the F&S I just bought has a nice windshield and keeps most of the rain off of me.
Well I open her on up to get back because it's lightening like crazy. I go to slow down as I approach the ramp and pull the throttle back and nothing. Still wide arse open.
At first I think just pull it out of gear but with a stuck throttle that probably would have scattered my powerhead so I just trimmed it all the way down and cut it off in gear.
When I got home I pulled the cowling off and sure enough, the rod that connects all three carb butterfly levers was stuck WFO. I barely touched it and it returned to normal position.
A 225 stuck wide arse open at the boat ramp ain't no fun in case y'all were wondering.
Needless it say it'll get a damn good cleaning and I'll figure out how to put a return spring on that dude somewhere.

Quick thinking to trim her down first. A straight kill up on pad could get violent in a hurry

Yep.
Thankfully I've owned boats most of my life and wasn't inexperienced or that would have gotten ugly in a hurry.

Handled that perfectly

Would have probably ended in disaster for me

But the upside is you got to trailer your boat faster

I've boated for a long time as well but I'm afraid I wouldn't have handled it as calmly as you did. Bad things can happen quickly, I'm glad you were unharmed

yeah that was pretty good thinking.

Your pants, the carb or both?
Glad it ended well.

That is what you call emotional intelligence.

What do you mean by trimming it down?

I have a buddy who thought you trimmed down when you put the boat in, and trimmed up when it was back on the trailer.
Eta: ran his boat for a long time like that

That’s funny. My bro-in-law bought a bayboat and insisted something was wrong with the steering, wouldnt turned at speed. I checked it out and even flushed the old fluid with new. All I could say was I don’t know bro seems ok to me. Nephew went with him and he never trimmed up. Once he learned to get the nose up it was all good. Dude just didn’t know

Watched an old boy do just that once at a ramp on yellow jacket creek in Lagrange, GA....dude and his old lady were discussing how she should back the trailer in the water...actually he was screaming and she was crying so not really a discussion...she stomped off and left him to his own devices...dude backed the trailer in, jumped in the boat, throttled wide open and went about 100 yards away from the ramp, did a 180 headed back to the ramp and hit the trailer WOT...boat was sitting in the bed of the truck, the bow light was about to the windshield and old boy was lying in the parking lot dazed and confused! Funny stuff. Someone should put game trail cameras and boat ramps and record that comedy gold...any day of the week someone is liable to pull some funny shite at a boat ramp....
