I just got quoted $1,700. That seems ridiculously high.

Get part from Rock Auto. DIY, not that difficult. What year and model is F150?

That is high, was it at a dealership?

Check with the dealer and see if there is a factory recall on this hub bearing assembly before you drop any dollars on it. I got burned like that on a Town & Country van when the hub bearing went out and I had no idea they were on a recall list.

Do it yourself.....it is so easy!

3-4 hours max, plus the raw cost of the bearing....

You might wanna consider doing both fronts while you are at it.

Give a mechanic $300 cash and they would be all over it doing it at home.

If F150 is anything like a Dodge it is very easy.

I have the tools and am capable of doing it myself, but I have no problem paying someone a fair price to do it for me. However, I may end up just buying my brother a nice bottle bourbon and making an afternoon of it.

Yep.

You can do a loan a tool at the local shop and get a big torque wrench if you don't have one..

If there isn't a recall go ahead and do both of them.

They usually fail close to each other.

I replaced the front hub on my GMC myself and bought the new hub and bearing assembly for $250ish. Round to tree fiddy for good measure and they are trying to F you.

Pro tip:
Wait until after he finishes to give him the bourbon.

Might as well replace the brake pads.

If you do it yourself just get the whole hub assembly and do both fronts. If one went the other probably isn’t far behind and you’ll have the truck off the ground. If you have to get the axle nut off you may need a weird socket size. You can research all that while your rock auto parts are coming in.

Buy the best part you can. I’ve never had the replacements last as long as the factory ones, even when I’ve bought the oem part.

Dude, do this yourself for less than half the price. A few hours and you are done. Super simple even if sealed hub for 4 wheel drive.

You didn't state the year of your truck, but you can get Detroit axle hubs, complete with bearings off of Amazon. I have used Detroit Axle brake part kits and had very good service with them.

Then there is also Rock Auto. I have had very good service from Rock Auto parts.

Good Luck!

Timken hubs for the f150 i got off Amazon were made in America.

They weighed more than the oem I took off.
