Axis & Whitetail deer herd

I’ve been living in the Texas hill country for about 3 years now and it’s been amazing. One of the things I’ll never get tired of is seeing the whitetail deer everywhere I go. What I’ve noticed the last few weeks are the Axis Deer moving in to the area and mixing it up with the whitetail. Last night I was able to watch a field with a mixed herd for a good bit. I wish I would’ve gotten better pics

Do you hunt ? If so, gain access/permission to available property since Axis can be hunted year round. Some of the best tasting meat on this planet.

I do and I’ve got a few places to hunt. I’m excited to do a few summer axis rut sits in a few weeks with my bow. I’ve never been fortunate to see one while hunting but they are literally on all sides of the lake now. Maybe this will be the year!

See Axis here all the time in central TX. Was on a bike ride earlier today and ran into a whitetail about 20 feet away before he got spooked.

A buddy of mine has a ranch in Rock Springs that's loaded with Axis. We make a trip or two each year out there to "thin the herd" and fill our freezers up.
They are beautiful animals and taste freaking great
