Can i put any complete upper on any complete lower?

Are the pins the same on all or are the brand specific if im missing one?

Does it matter the caliber? .22, .223, .300, .308etc

Yes you can

ETA: No you can’t. Didn’t see you edited the question after my post. Look at BBVDs post

There are AR-15s and AR-10s (or LR-308)

They are not the same size.

The .308 and any variant (6.5cm, .260, .243, etc) will not fit on an AR-15.

In an AR-15 there are a bunch of calibers .223/5.56, .22 Valkyrie, .22 Nosler, 6.5 grendel, 6.8 spc, .300blk
All of those will fit on any AR-15

AR-10 and LR-308 will not all fit together. It’s either an AR-10 or it’s an LR-308

Pretty sure Reds didn’t see the edit

If this is your first build focus on the AR-15 platform, and I recommend the standard .223/5.56 chambering as a very flexible round and economical to plink with. All 15 uppers and lowers will work. I recommend Aero Precision and Palmetto State armory for parts. It's just legos for men

Not to change the subject but adding a question, I just purchased a PA-15 freedom classic lower. Whats the OBs recommendations of complete uppers to complete the rifle (.223/.556). Price range 350-650.

Just buy one of their uppers. Your budget would get you into one of their "premium" uppers that has a chf FN barrel. Or your budget could get you into one of their freedom uppers that shoots just fine and spend the other 300 on ammo. It won't last 30k rounds or whatever the FN barrel will but if you end up like most of us after your first one...there will be more.

Get one of their complete uppers for $220. Preferably with a mid length gas system.

That’s correct. That whole kit can go straight to your house. The striped lowers are always on sale on PSA for $40-50 and get sent to an FFL.

Is the 6.5 Grendel a decent deer hunting round? I've never shot one and don't know much about that round.
Does it shoot pretty flat?

It is. For SE whitetail 5.56 in a bonded softnose is a good hunting round if it's legal in your area.

So, If I bought a 6.5 Grendel upper for my AR-15, would I just put The Grendel bolt, into my bolt carrier? or would I need a new carrier as well?

I’d just get a whole new carrier

Probably is, but I just like something heavier. I have plenty of rifles, but I keep my AR with me most of the time and it's already beat up. Be nice if I could use it for deer sometimes too.

You can get a new carrier.

Easy to swap out. 5 minutes tops and will be 2 min after you’re used to doing it.

oh.. I've done it a few(thousand) times. I can probably have bolt and carrier, out taken apart, put back together and firing, in less than 3 minutes, but it's been a while since I raced anybody at it. Just wondering if everything is built the same, and what would the cost be? will the new bolt interchange into the old carrier? Firing pin?
Does an upper kit come as a complete unit? If it does, that's fine, but if I am buying parts, I would like to use as much of what I already have, as possible. It's all Colt.
