Pre-molars showing a little wear but the back molars aren’t. I’d say anywhere from 1.5-2.5 years old. I remember having to do this for tests back in college at LSU. I’m rusty, but I don’t believe that’s a mature buck at all.

Go to the 4th tooth, is the dark material twice as wide as the enamel on the upper crest?

NO = 2.5

Look closer.
There is a problem that nobody has noticed or said yet. I still say 3.5 even with the abnormality.

You referring to the first premolar growing together?

Should be 6 separate teeth, right?

I still say 2.5.

Yea, I’m talking about the first tooth missing. There are only 5 teeth not 6.
You start at the first molar for 2.5 years old and older. If you count back 4 you jump to the second molar in this case. 6th tooth is also already showing wear.

Teeth are so relevant to location and diet. It’s oddly hard to nail down age from a given set of jaw bones in Louisiana. Case and point we have killed many 5.5 and 6.5 yo deer that we can prove with photos that have the teeth of a 3.5 year old at best. We have killed a couple in the 7.5-8.5 range that by teeth charts today no one would put a day over 4.5 or 5. Now in west Texas and Missouri north I’d say these jaw bone charts are spot on!

I don’t think it’s missing I think they are growing funny see above view photo. Sometimes it’s tricky with jawbones sometimes you have to see the entire deer or have a history with it.

I agree, but all we have is the jaw and the weight. The jaw is the only baseline we have. If you say we can’t judge the age because the jawbone has an abnormality, then I can say ok.
As far as believing that a jawbone will be off by 2 years; I can’t believe that. (Someone wale said that) I could believe it being off by a year, but 2+ years is hard to believe. Unless, the jawbone has abnormalities, like missing teeth. I’ll post a pic of a jaw that I have from this year that is missing a tooth that was knocked out from fighting. Left side was missing 1 and the right was missing 2. The deer’s lips were ripped from the jaw, so that is the only thing that I could think that happened.
