Anyone use a Go Pro while outdoors?
Posted by weagle99 on 2/12/19 at 6:45 pm11
I was given a Hero model and it doesn’t have a view screen. I will probably wear it on my head. How do I know it is aimed right to capture action? I guess tilt it down slightly?
TIA
TIA

I use one occasionally on fishing trips. It has a pretty wide angle view. Pretty much just point it in the direction you want to video. Mine has Wifi and I can preview it through the phone app. As soon as the view is set I turn the WiFi off to save battery.
ETA: I don’t wear it on my head because I move my head too much. I do use the chest harness, but it can get in the way occasionally while fishing (ie setting the hook).

Quite a bit. It's become a fun little hobby.

Have the go pro app on your phone. Turn on camera Wi-Fi, connect to phone and then look at your view through the app.
Once set, turn off the Wi-Fi on your camera. It kills the battery very fast on the hero cameras.
After a bit you'll learn the angle.
Once I got the 5 black it was so much easier with the digital screen. Obviously. Can't wait to get the 7.

It has a wide andle view. They also make a screen called a bacpac that attaches to the back of the camera. I have one and it works well. You will need a different case if you want it protected.

I use a go pro a good bit, as others have said it has a pretty wide angle lens so it captures everything around. If you are trying to make some decent videos, I would suggest getting a few and use them at different angles. Below is the last fishing video i made. it has a mix of go-pros, DSLR's and drones footage. but when mixed together, its pretty neat.

Wow! That looks professional man.
I thought about using one and sticking it around the feeder by the game camera so I can get some down range action when I let the bullet fly.
Do they have motion detection or could I start the recording when I get in the stand with my phone and would it last for say 4-5hrs at a time?

The battery on the 5 seems to last around 2ish hours.

yea i agree but i love editing my videos especially when it comes out really well
Just download the GoPro app and connect to you phone via Wifi. Then you can see what it is looking at. I have a Session and it doesn't have a screen, so I use my phone to get it set up on my boat before every trip.
