Anyone still fish Lake Verret/Stephensville/Belle River?
Haven't fished there in 30 years since I moved away. Grew up at grandparents camp there fishing every weekend as a boy. Great memories.

Was just curious if bass fishing was still decent there.

As with all of our fishing down here it dependent on many things. Water clarity, water levels and moving water. The area still produces when those are right.

Belle River can produce at certain times of the year. The spillway has been absolute shit

This past year, yes. All the grass disappeared.

I dont expect it to be that bad again this summer

But to answer OPs question, thats the only area we fish. We always do well with numbers, but dont expect to catch any monsters.

Most of the fish we catch are 1-2 pounders that we take back to the camp and eat and have a good time. So the trophy baws on this site call them dinks

A fishers of Men tournament was held in the Verret area this weekend. I saw some of the bags that were weighted in and they had some nice fish mixed in. I think the winning weight was 16lbs.

Not that it matters but 17.03 won it. Big bass was 5.03. 23 anglers had over 10lbs so it's doing what it normally does this time of year.

Thats about right. That is a trophy down here. Anything over 3.5 pounds and I fell pretty damn good

The disappearance of the grass was mind boggling to say the least

Good luck! Back in the 80's, TX rigged red shad culprit worm and chartreuse/white H&H or Humdinger willow leaf spinnerbait was the ticket.

Those or a green beetle spin with gold blades pass across the cypress knees was the ticket many times. Good Lord, I used to love fishing down there.

Same here. Many of my favorite childhood memories were from the fishing camp at Belle River.

Fixed for when I was fishing Verret in the 80's!

re: Anyone still fish Lake Verret/Stephensville/Belle River?
Fished Friday evening(2 hours) Saturday morning until around 3 and Sunday until 9

Friday - 1 bass (small)

Saturday - started slow picked up first fish about 9 am but it was a good 4+! After that we picked up 8 more the rest of the day. All decent fish between 1.5-2.5lbs but nothing like the first one.

Sunday - We struggled only caught 2 small.. One of the bass I caught had something sticking out his mouth I thought is was a soft plastic. I pulled it out and it was a 6" snake and he was still hitting my bait.

All fish were tight to the bank and all on soft plastics fishing very slow. The fish did not want anything moving for us anyway..

The marshes around Hopedale and Delacroix are ate up with the bass if you want numbers and not quality.

Sawtooth - I would love to go to Delacroix and bass fish but I have no idea where to start and heard you can run up on land pretty quick around there if you do not know where you are going.

I have been fishing Delacroix for a few years now. Just takes a few trips of taking it slow to get an idea of where to go. Plenty of crab traps out there as well. (follow the buoys or the boats to learn your way around) Jack @ Sweetwater Marina can probably tell you where to go.

Hopedale is a bit deeper. The folks at Hopedale and Shell Beach can probably give you some ideas as well. You may also mess up and catch a few speckled trout and reds as well. Since they closed the Mr. Go that area has gotten really fresh. Search out the grass beds and you will find the fish.

my dad says the same thing about Verret. He only throws H&H spinner baits to this day because he used to burn them up at Verret on them.
