I was looking for a hound about 3 years ago for a pet for the kids. We ended up with a Bloodhound and couldn’t be happier. He is absolutely wonderful with the kids and doesn’t chew or tear up anything. He sleeps on the porch most of the time but is wide open when on a trail. He had the prettiest howl you’ve ever heard and he isn’t shy using it.
He’s about 105 lbs but not fat. It’s mostly loose skin and ears.

It depends on what you're wanting as a pet. An intelligent and sophisticated house dog? Look elsewhere, like in the direction of some gay golden doodle. If you want a badass deer running, coon treeing best friend for life yard dog hounds are awesome. You just have to live in the country or have neighbors who don't mind constant bugling and bellering everytime they see a living creature. I had Blue Ticks, Walkers and Beagles as a kid and freaking loved them.

I've had two bluetick coonhounds that were awesome pets. Smart as can be and I loved their bark. Just as with any hunting breed you need to give them a task and keep them active so they don't get bored/destructive.

I have a Black and Tan and a redbone.

Both clipped though so no luck for you, both from Florida as well so again no help.

They make great pets, they’re awesome with my toddler daughter.

ETA: these aren’t ‘true’ ABAT’s but if you’re into rescuing coonhound rescue is great. 17 week litter in DFW

We got some deer beagles from Arkansas a couple years ago and 1 female had puppies in January. I got a pup for my kids and they abosolutely love her. As a kid most of our pets were beagles that people gave away because they weren’t good hunting dogs but they always made great pets.

Our 5 month old loves to play dress up.

Yes I have raised both, the black and tan was a great family dog that was very intelligent hard headed but intelligent.. I so was the beagle. I would love a blood hound and have been looking at them also. I do live out in the country with no neighbors.

I've had 8 coon dogs of different breeds and I couldnt imagine having any of them as a pet. The one I have now is cool, but hes a hunting dog and knows it. I can let him out at the house as long as I keep a close eye on him but it took a lot of work to get to that point.

I live in the country too and wouldn’t have a bloodhound in a subdivision. Mine came from a breeder around Eagle Lake Ms which is just north of Vicksburg.

people tend to forget that golden doodles can be badass hunting dogs. don't let their hairdo fool you.

I wish I would have known this in January. We keep our dogs just north of Shreveport and gave 6 away.
