Need a 75 ft tall 4 ft diameter cotton wood tree cut down and hauled off. How much would I be looking at spending?

It really depends on how difficult it is to drop and haul off. I got some prices on a big oak tree that was easy to get to and they ranged from $700-$1000.
Make sure whoever you get has insurance.

I'm preparing myself for a raping in the spring. I have 24 mature live oaks to be pruned!!!! Gonna look awesome when they finish though!

Make sure whoever does the work has workman's comp in their insurance. General liability won't cover injuries (death). Call your insurance agent and they'll tell you the risk you're incurring by not hiring someone without it.

I had several large pines and oaks removed a couple of years ago. The guy charged me a different rate depending on whether he had room to just saw it off and drop them or was in close proximity to my house and fencing where he had to climb and take them down in pieces. He charged $350 for the ones that required climbing and $175 for the ones he could drop in place. He gave me that price because there were 14 of them and the pines were large enough to make saw logs and he was going to resell the oaks as firewood.

Yeah - I was surprised when he quoted it. Those pines were massive with lots of board feet of lumber in them. He sold those and cut and split the oaks and sold the firewood himself.

I paid almost $3,000 to have a water oak removed. It had to be taken out with a crane.

Wow - you got a great deal there.

Were you able to retain any of the oak firewood?

Had two quotes around $2000 to take out a river birch a month ago. I ended up renting some equipment and only spent $250 to do it myself

1500-2000? That's a lot to haul off and handle. Get a bid from Miller and Atkins tree svc. And Barron's Both insured, I've done business with all of them, they're all good folks. If you're in fact in Shreveport.

No - he hauled off every scrap from the oak trees.

He must have had a buyer for the pines in order to do the work that cheaply. Not to mention that he had several days work in one location. No doubt his price would be higher if I only needed 1 or 2 removed. The pines were roughly 80' tall and 36" in diameter. The heartwood in each one would easily make 2 12" x 12" beams 20' in length.

If it's touching the power lines, call your power company and get them to come cut it first. If you get the right crew, they will remove most of the tree and you can get the remaining cut very cheap.

Yeah, if the tree is dead the power co will lots of times stub it short enough so if it falls it won't effect the lines, or remove the entire tree.
