I've had one and several friends have/had optimaxes from 115 to 300. They're excellent engines IMO. Extremely powerful, great fuel economy, sound awesome, etc. They're very noisy which is cool sometimes but damned aggervating sitting at a rig. Id trade my etech for one without a thought.

I have been involved in 3 blowups, two different 250's that blew chunks everywhere and a 115 that locked itself up.

Eta: all were pro xs optimaxes.

The later years after 2010 or so are good motors

Depends on several factors - the year model, what hp, what application are you using it for.

They were all mistreated. Two mudriding 250's and the 115 was ran with the oil system crapped out.

I figured there had to be a story as to why they blew up and you still recommended them.

I have a 2010 250 ProXS on the back of my 24 foot Haynie. I fish Big Lake. Have not have any problems with it and love it.

I'm scared to post anything good about my 250 Pro XS two stroke. I can't afford to jinx it - my dealer says Mercury no longer stocking/selling parts for two strokes.

I have a 2015 115 2 stroke. Love the motor. I'm a 2 stroke guy. Wish they still made the Pro XS 2 stroke in all sizes.

They make some incredible noises with engine guts banging around inside of the cowling.

Is mercury not supporting the optimax anymore? I figured parts would be available forever for those. Theres so many out there.
