Anyone considering hunting with a nearly forgotten gun this year?

Like an old one that might be a family hand-me-down sitting in the back of the closet?

I'm looking at busting out the old 742 Woodsmaster that hasn't seen the outdoors in many years and giving her some exercise this season.

30-06? I have my dad's, it doesn't have a scope on it currently. It doesn't extract shells properly so I used it as a single shot when I first started hunting. Has what feels like a 12 lb trigger. I kind of want to get it fixed up now.

I’m hunting with my dads old Model 700 270 this year. I saved for several months and gave him the gun for Christmas in 1993.
He passed away in 2010 and it’s been used a little bit primarily kept in the safe. It’s very sentimental to me .

I actually am hunting with my old 742 wood master .30-06

I like hunting with it in closed in areas around our pond in the woods.

If I hit it then it stays down

there's a couple good blinds on my place that's perfect for grand dad's 742 '06. Some 150gr round nose. 50 yd shot max. We've got a pig issue that needs solving this weekend...

Yep. I've made up some handloads that are on the light side so as not to beat up the receiver. Heavy and hot loads create a severe wear problem on them.

I hunt with an over 40 year old savage 110 .270 given to me by my uncle years ago.

Lately if I'm hunting woods or won't have a really far shot I break out my dads old lever action marlin 30-30. AKA the Dirty Thirty

Nice. It's a good feeling to take those oldies out for a spin.

This is a good site that has history and common problems with these rifles:

Probably the worst rifle I've ever hunted with. The 243 model is nothing but a jam fest.

Going to make a couple of dove hunts during the 3rd split and break out my Dads 1955 Model 12. Wish I had a dollar for every dove that gun shot at!

This is the first year I’m not using my dads Remington 270 that he got in the 80’s. Figured it’s time I use my own guns.

I have my dad's and it's in great shape but the accuracy isn't worth a shite, tried everything short of having it recrowned and still dinner plate groups.

I put two in the freezer already so planning on bow hunting the rest of the year.
But if I do gun hunt it will be with a win 94 that my FIL gave to my daughter a couple of years ago. It has a nickel plated barrel and I don’t think it has ever killed a deer.
If I hunt with it I will wear a red plaid shirt and any deer I ahoot I will probably mount just for the sheer cool story of killing it with a gun that looked like it had a mirror for a barrel.
I hunt with a marlin 336 almost exclusively at my lease so not much of a change there other than the nickel barrel.

Maybe I got a good one because it can do 2 inch and sometimes better with the right ammo. It likes light (125 gr) thrown on the slower side and it is easy on the action and shooter.
