or feral dogs?

I had one come out full sprint after something the other day.
Fortunately he was too quick to pick my rifle up, I was scared I'd have to waste a round on his arse.

In my back yard right at dusk, the coyotes started howling and the hair on my back of my neck stood up. Beaux (Rottweiler/lab mix) hair stood up on his back - I had to fight to get him back inside. Poor Beaux wouldn’t have a chance

Walked into the back yard about two years ago and my two bulldogs had blood on their faces. LGD was limping around. I thought they were in a fight. Go out there and there were dive coyote dead in the yard. Two larger females were dead on the other side of the fence.
I can only assume they heard the pup whining and thought it would be an easy meal.
It was not.
Had the unfortunate side effect of making the LGD think he's a complete hard arse. The other dogs are gone, but he will lay in the yard at night and whine like a puppy trying to bait them in when they start howling.
None of them take the bait anymore. Last one was a large male about a year ago. Poor bastard ran for the fence and got grabbed and tossed around for twenty minutes or so.

Had a coyote charge me one time while walking to my stand. He got about 5 yards away and spun around and went back the direction he came from.

When we moved to pelican point years ago, the small 18 hole golf course wasn’t built yet, from what I recall the cart paths were either installed or atleast marked.
We would take our male golden retriever and about dusk we could hear the coyotes coming alive. Being unarmed with a dog and your wife wasn’t my best planning.

The loudest and most howling I’ve ever heard in the woods was on night when I had a 25 minute walk back to the house and they were between me and the house.
The main reason why I was nervous was because there was no moon and I had forgot my flashlight. This was before cell phones.

I was standing in the bottom of a ravine this year at the camp in centreville after killing a doe. It is about 6:00 and I’m waiting for my buddy with the 4 wheeler. A pack starting howling and they were so close I could hear them running. I have never ran up a stand so fast in my life.

In both cases I could hear them moving through the fallen leaves but never saw them. In the golf course situation we saw coyote scat earlier but it didn’t look fresh.

My parents place is infested with the suckers. A lack attacked my mom’s dog in their backyard a year or two ago. I have had a few run up on me in the woods but nothing to crazy. A buddy trapped a black coyote yesterday. Never seen one of those before.
Now you want to crap your pants, try spooking a bear when walking out of the woods at dark with no flashlight. Never been more scared in my life.

Walking to my stand one morning trying not to use my light I heard growling. As I fumbled to get my light I yelled at it. Something took off running so guess that was enough to scare it away
Another stand I have you have to cross a narrow creek with steep banks. Started making my way down the bank and heard a commotion. Thought it was maybe deer. In the sand there was blood and tracks everywhere. After the hunt I went in the daylight and found where a puck had run a 6pt down on that creek the night before. Kinda surprised they gave up their meal so easily when I came through

Six years ago we were in the campground at the entrance to Denali. It was 2:00 AM but there was some light and I heard owls hooting down by the creek so I went down because I was curious what kind of owl. When I got 20 feet from the water I heard clattering approaching from up stream. Well, here comes a caribou with wild eyes sprinting along the waters edge. I look further back because it was running for a reason and sure enough there's a wolf running the caribou. Scrawny, white, and with a radio collar; but still a wolf. The caribou passes along the creek in front of me; so 20 feet away. The wolf is further from the creek and headed straight for me; its eyes are locked on the caribou and I've been motionless and the light is dim. The wolf finally sees me at about 15 feet and veers around me and keeps on after the caribou. But I had visions of it leaping up right for my throat. Definitely a weird feeling seeing a wolf headed right at you; and close.
It really surprised me, this wasn't far from a campground with a couple hundred campers, and also not far from the main highway; it wasn't some remote wilderness. We did see another wolf while riding the bus; well out in the park. It looked very much like the one I saw by the stream but was 50 miles away so I doubt it. From the bus window:

Scary? No. They are 30-40 lb wormy mangy dogs. Additionally, there are only 10 or so verified coyote attacks on humans every year (compared to about 80 people being struck by lightening and dying annually).
I've had a coyote sneak up on me while I was laying across a log calling to a turkey. Saw him out the corner of my eye, but I needed Ol Thomas to take another step. He stepped, I shot, turned and shot the coyote in the arse as he ran away. Fun morning.

No. The only thing that scares me that might be in the woods around here is meth heads. I ain't scared of no coyote.

Back in the beginning of January I was walking through a thicket to a stand. I heard something running through the thicket and thought it was deer. 4 big feral dogs busted out on the trial right on me. They are bristled up and were snarling. They did not respond to my hollering and were moving in closer. They were about 15 feet away and I had a bolt action rifle. I shot the biggest one in the chest and the rest scattered. I would have been effed if they had decided to attack instead, they were big dogs, ribs showing, no collars. I immediately called my cousin who was out in the bean field and he was able to shoot one more of them when they broke out in to the field. Some of my young cousins and some elderly hunt out there and it could end up being a bad deal. My dad is mostly deaf and would have never heard them coming.
I've never had a scary experience with a coyote and I don't shoot them when I see them. Bobcats either.

I was standing against a tree watching deer trails and heard one coming up my scent trail from behind. I turned around and waited on him. All of a sudden I realize its 3 of them back to back noses on the ground and in the wind. I brace my left hand against the tree and as soon as the first one walks by I put a size 12 steel toe boot to his head and D*IC*K rolled him about 20ft. He ran off screaming like he was shot and one of his buddies shite himself as they left. I about pissed myself laughing so hard. No deer that evening but you couldn't beat the entertainment.

Well considering years ago when I lived in the country I had a border collie who even at 6 months old used to run at coyotes. Your Rottweiler/lab mix would have probably killed 2 of them before he/she even got hurt. I hear them all the time, had a pack of them between me and truck a few years back in Kisatchie, they just haul arse. My old home place they were everywhere, never bothered me.
I’m not saying a pack of them can’t kill a dog but they ain’t doing shite to a decent size dog with a grown arse man nearby.
ETA: I miss that dog. She was beautiful, died at a year old from brain aneurysm. I was single at the time and she went everywhere with me. The same day she died on, I had a son born a few years later.
Pic from about 2006 or 2007, she was probably 4-5 months old here.
Got her January of 06 now that I think about it.
