can someone go over differences between shooting 5.56 over .223? is differences negligible? i think i read 5.56 shoot hotter so could be more wear and tear over time.

Some weapons arent rated for 5.56. 5.56 is hotter, you are correct.

another $220 down the pipe. 24 cent rounds free shipping really is a great deal.

I have a Ruger American Predator in .223 Remington and I was told not to shoot 5.56.

Ammo is virtually identical, 5.56 NATO uses brass that is slightly thicker in some areas which accounts for the higher pressure. Military ammo is also heavily crimped and uses sealant. The difference in wear and tear between a diet of M855, M193, and commercial .223 ammo is negligible. M855A1 is a different story there but nobody but the military is shooting enough of it to show the damage. I also suspect that a lot of the broken bolts and other things being reported are in higher round count rifles and those not using the EPR magazines. 5.56 chambered rifles have slightly different chamber dimensions compared to a .223 to mitigate potential pressure spikes and increase reliability.

you can shoot .223 in a 5.56.

You can not shoot 5.56 in a .223.

Well you could and probably 100 rounds wouldn't matter. But, the one time that it does....

Thanks, my original post may have been misinterpreted. I know that I cannot shoot 5.56 in my rifle and would never do so. I did not know why, but have since been educated as to the difference between them. Thanks again.
