Know someone who has a camp there and scratched on the lake on thursday. Its slow on the lake...
If the wind is out of the north and isn't too strong hit the jetties. Thats where its at right now. You can catch them on live shrimp or plastics and yes they have been catching there.

Fished Tuesday and Wednesday and it was extremely slow. Jetties produced just a few fish and were loaded down with mullet and sharks. Trout can be caught offshore. Rigs or a grass line seem to be the ticket. Even that is hit or miss at this point. If fishing the afternoon I may abandon trout all together and try live bait or cut bait deep in the channel for red fish. Even the flounder are coming off the flats and prove hard to catch after about 1030 in the mornin.

Sounds like the limits need to be lowered again.

Read a report that Big Lake is going through some kind of slow period over a few years...
Hopefully next year is money!

It's definitely been hit or miss this year.

The talk out there is that weirs have been closed for most of the year. Thus, shrimp and other bait are not coming out of the marsh and into the lake. Could be a cause...
Reason is landowners of the marsh are trying to keep it as fresh as possible most likely due to the benefits for duck hunting.
That lake is a big ol clusterfrick. I think they have b/w 60 to 80 guides working that lake. Texans are wearing that fricker out.
Can you imagine 3-4 limits damn near everyday of the year from that many boats?! Not including the normal fisherman and camp owners.
My buddy's dad isn't too happy about it along with many of the other people who have camps down at the marina.

Dude there isn't 60-80 guides catching limits of trout everyday on the lake. The majority of the guides only guide during the summer months also. I fished about 40 days in June and July, and saw maybe 20 guide boats on the busiest days.

The shrimp showed up couple weeks later than usual, but there was more bait in the lake this summer than I've ever seen. When the weirs look closed, most of the time there is still an opening for bait to swim through.

The lake has it's share of problems, but it's moving in the right direction. The south end is getting rocked soon, and that will help tremendously. Bitching about big lake has been very exaggerated this year. Everyone I fish with had an incredible summer on the lake.

Can I go fishing witchu?

I have been doing terrible on the lake. I only get one day to fish a week and it seems lately that it's always the wrong day for the lake. Been doing ok in west cove and the marshes around it.

Hop in if I ever make it back down there. It's all about going when the wind and tide is right. And don't even try to catch trout on Saturdays.
