Any Savage 110 owners?
Thinking of buying my oldest son a rifle for Christmas. The savage 110 apex predator with vortex scope seems like a decent deal. I like the threaded barrel as well so I can attach a muzzle brake. Never owned a savage looking for opinions.

Savage 110 in .270 was my first rifle at 13yrs old. Killed many deer with that guns and still have it. No issues. Savage makes a good gun for a good price. Does it have the accutrigger?

Yes the new ones all seem to have the adjustable accutrigger. Trying to decide on caliber as well.

How old is your son?

I do not have a centerfire Savage but I do have a .17hmr. Crazy accurate.

there are so many good calibers out there. Decide what diameter that you want and go from there.

6.5mm, .270 (6.8mm), .30

.270 treated me well growing up and is still a fine round. That said, 7mm-08 is what my wife shoots and it's fine. Probably what I'll get my boy soon.

.270 is my go to as well. 6.5 creedmoor looks promising but almost hat to get him a weird round for his first rifle.

My 110 will be 25 years old this year, in .270. However, she’s a safe queen now and I switched to the 6.5 cm; 2 savages, a tikka, and a palmetto ar10. LOVE the 6.5. Better ballistics than a .308 and a very easy shooting round recoil wise. My wife can shoot the 6.5 multiple times and never complains about recoil.

I'd agree with you 7-8 years ago, but you can find 6.5 CM on the shelf just about anywhere that sells ammo. You can debate the round itself, and yes it does the same thing that some other older rounds have done for a long time (you're not going to find those on a wal-mart shelf though), but it's far from a non-mainstream round now days.

I havent shot many of them but I dont know of a bad shooting one. They're very nice rifles and IMO are very underrated in the hunting community. The long range guys have long known savage to be a great value in off the shelf 300 and 600 yard riflea.

You'll be in good shape w/ the Savage. When my son was 10 yo I bought him a Savage bolt action/scope combo. The gun was chambered in 308 Win. Savage has alway been known as every accurate factory guns. In addition to his gun, I also own 2 Savage bolt action handguns, 2 Savage centerfire rifles and 2 Savage rimfires. The Savage won't have the cosmetic refinements of some others, but I've never been disappointed in the accuracy of any of my Savages.
